With the intention of ensuring quality race cards, Hastings Racecourse general manager Darren MacDonald announced today the re-scheduling of the Sunday, May 18 card to Wednesday, July 23.
“We will strive to have strong nine-race cards on Saturday, May 17 and the Victoria Holiday Day Monday on May 19,” MacDonald said. “Tentatively, we’re looking at a 3 p.m. start time for the July mid-week card.”
MacDonald said that the decision to make the adjustment was in concert with the horsemen at Hastings Racecourse, citing the availability of more race-ready horses in July.
“I want to thank the horsemen for working collaboratively with management to accommodate this date change with the belief it will provide a better product for our race fans,” MacDonald said.
The Victoria Holiday Monday card will include two long-standing $50,000 stake races at Hastings: the Strawberry Morn for fillies and mares and the John Longden 6000 for 3-year-olds and up.
Start times for both Saturday, May 17 and Monday, May 19 will be the regular 1:50 p.m.
