Vancouver, B.C. (Nov. 27/17) – Live thoroughbred racing in 2018 will begin with opening day on Saturday, April 21 and continue through Sunday, October 14 it was announced by Darren MacDonald, General Manager, Hastings Racecourse & Director, BC Racing.

“The 2018 season will encompass 52 live racing dates,” MacDonald said. “Our stakes schedule will be released in January. In the meantime, we’re looking forward to introducing exciting new promotions to complement some of the finest thoroughbred racing in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest.”

The popular Friday Night Live cards – six in total – return on July 27 and run through the entire month of August with 7:00 p.m. start times.  Racing under the lights at Hastings has become a favourite destination on Vancouver’s entertainment scene.

As in past years, Saturday and Sunday afternoons with 1:50 p.m. start times dominate the 2018 schedule. Holiday Monday cards will also begin at 1:50 p.m. with additional two 6:00 p.m. Monday cards – Aug. 20 & Aug. 27 during the dark dates of the PNE Fair. There will also be one Wednesday night race date (Sept. 5) with a 6:00 p.m. start.

A month-to-month breakdown of the 2018 race-day season includes four dates in April, eight each in May and June, 10 in July, nine each in August and September and four in October.

The Hastings Spring Paddock Sale featuring two-year-olds in training and horses of racing age will be presented by the HBPA and BCTOBA on Saturday, April 14 with the preview set for Saturday, April 7.
