Race Analysis for June 20

Analysis by Randy Goulding

RACE ONE: DRINKINGONTHEJOB has posted back to back bullet three-furlong works in :35.60 seconds and appears to be primed for a big effort by a trainer that can have them ready to go first time out. Her deceased sire has below average stats with first time starters but two of her siblings won their first start at two and the works stand out. J J'S TRAVELER is the only horse in the field with a race behind him and he figures to move forward in her second start for a trainer who over the past five years is 20 percent with 2-year-olds making their second starts. WOO has been well prepped for his debut and she is by a sire that is 6/28 with first time starting 2-year-olds, or if you prefer - 21 percent. ALL FOR TIME and ALAWAY have both been working well enough and should be considered for the exotics.

RACE TWO: BRED ROYAL chased a fast one when he finished second in his first start here and he also ran well in most of his races at Golden Gate. He appears to have the best speed, gets in light and could be gone if he breaks alertly from his inside post. DON'TWAITFORME ran a big race to finish second in his only start and the horse that finished third came back to win his next start. He was a vet scratch May 29 but his sharp five-furlong move in :59 seconds flat June 6 is a good sign that all is well. CREW LEADER has looked pretty sharp in his works leading up to his debut and he is by Pulpit who is roughly 12 percent with first time starters. The leading rider is attracted and one of these days he is going to win a race for Condelinios, who can have them ready to go first time.

RACE THREE: GRAYROSS GAL looked pretty strong winning her second race in a row and she should be able to stand the jump in class. She has good speed but doesn't need the lead and should be able to stalk what could be a contested pace. INFINITE WEALTH could be part of the early battle and she has improved her Beyer Speed Figures in her last two races so she could be coming up to a peak effort. The horse that won her last race came back to win for $12,500 with a 69 Beyer Speed Figure June 5. NEVANOVA has worked sharply following an even effort versus tougher in her lone start this year and could move forward with a race behind her. Her only wins have been when she's been able to establish a clear lead and not sure that is going to happen here, though. MCGILL is another one with good speed and could stick around long enough to pick up at least a slice.

RACE FOUR: SASSY CASEY closed well to finish third in her first try going around three turns and could take a bit step forward here. Over the past five years her trainer is 13 percent with horses going long for the second time and we'll go with her over MY BLACK PEARL because she'll probably be a better price and she is a 3-year-old so she could have more upside potential. MY BLACK PEARL deserves to be favored following her very good effort to finish second by a nose in the same race the top pick exits. It was also her first time going long and she could have the edge with her tactical speed. It was a tough stretch drive so it wouldn't be surprising to see her bounce after such a hard race. FINAL PLEASURE made a strong move from a stalking position to take the lead before tiring in the stretch in the same race and she could certainly move forward enough to win this.

RACE FIVE: MY BAILOUT was up close to a fast pace and then drew off to win her maiden for fun and might be good enough to beat winners first time. She owns the best last race Beyer Sped Figure and if she runs a similar race from just off of what figures to be a hotly contested she should be right there at the finish. DESTINYSSILVERLACE looks like the best speed and she had her three-race winning streak snapped when she jumped up to face $25,000 claimers in her latest. She fits better here, adds Lasix and the only concern is all the other speed she is going to have to deal with. HABERDASHER takes a substantial drop after trying stakes horses in her latest and from the way she broke her maiden in New York, her chances would seem to improve if it comes up wet. She is certainly going to appreciate the easier company she is facing here. MAIDA VALE could pass a lot of tiring speed if she gets taken off the pace like she did in her winning debut two back.

RACE SIX: MARKETIZE seemed to be going nowhere going around the second turn but then it looked like the lights went on and he kicked it into another gear in the stretch when he debuted for this price June 6. He figures to take a big step forward here and if he does he'll be tough to beat. GRAND HUNTER flew by the top pick while going 4-wide around the turn and then continued on well to finish second. He doesn't have a lot of speed and that isn't going to help him in this full field of 11. There also doesn't appear to be a lot of speed signed on. GAME SAVVY looks like the best speed and could be dangerous if he gets away on his own. He held on well when he set a moderate pace in his debut and then couldn't keep up to a faster pace in his second start. DIAMOND SPIKES drops to a new low and attracts a rider that has been heating up lately.

RACE SEVEN: LOWTHER STREET only got beat by 1 1/4 lengths despite going extremely wide in a quickly run sprint in his first start here. He was coming off of a fifth place finish in the Grade 2 Hawthorne Gold Cup and both of his wins came going a middle-distance. He stretches out here and should appreciate the extra yardage. SENOR ROJO looked like he was going to get up for second in the John Longden but may have been a bit intimidated when he tried to get past Teide along the rail at the top of the stretch. This is a much easier spot and considering the lack of speed in the field he should be in a prominent position throughout. GANBEI made a nice late move but he wasn't going to get past Spaghetti Mouse who had a perfect trip from just off of very slow fractions. Once again there doesn't figure to be a lot of pace but he is a very sharp horse right now and should be considered for the exotics. Blinkers go back on KRAZY KOFFEE and he won the B.C. Cup Classic from a forward position so it is possible he'll show a bit more speed today.

RACE EIGHT: GALAHAD made the lead at the top of the stretch but then tired in his first route and just second start this year. He figures to improve with a three-turn race behind him and he could be coming up to a peak effort in the third start of his current form cycle. CANDLESTICK PARK takes a big drop after just one sprint and most of his races last year going long would be good enough to win here. He'll need some help up front and it isn't clear that he's going to get it, however. SUPERIOR STRAITS showed more early interest in his latest and with not a lot of obvious speed in the field he could be tough if he gets away early and is allowed to set moderate fractions. ANDUCCI might be worth a look at what could be a big price. He didn't show much in his initial start this year but he is stretching out to his best distance, gets in light and has some tactical speed.
