Mike's Race Analysis September 26, 2008

Race #1

1st   -  #5 Lady Preacher | 2nd  -  #6 Tongue And Groove | 3rd  -  #2 Scottish Billie

COMMENTARY : The #5 LADY PREACHER has been freshened up after a couple of disappointing tries with pricier maidens; she has speed and might be able to get clear early which would give her a big edge today. The #6 TONGUE AND GROOVE is the logical play on form in this dash but with the lack of early speed in the lineup she could be vulnerable favourite. The #2 SCOTTISH BILLIE is amazingly participating in two consecutive cards and still looks pretty good in this spot.

Race #2

1st   -  #4 Devilish Wish | 2nd  -  #8 A Devilish Bite | 3rd  -  #6 El Siete Leguas

COMMENTARY : The #4 DEVILISH WISH is coming out of one the toughest maiden heats this spring and considering she raced three wide I thought it was a better-than-looked effort; she’s in much cheaper this evening and should be a major player. The #8 A DEVILISH BITE will likely take a lot of action but her final time wasn’t overly quick so I think she’s beatable. The #6 EL SIETE LEGUAS has some excellent morning trials in preparation for his debut and these connections have done well with their young stock this season.

Race #3

1st   -  #6 Boxcars | 2nd  -  #5 Rock Royal | 3rd  -  #4 Jeannie Liz

COMMENTARY : The #6 BOXCARS is the only off-the-pace filly in the group and with the other five fillies seemingly wanting the lead I think she’ll get an ideal setup today. The #5 ROCK ROYAL has been working steadily for her first two-turn try after a win going short in a quick time; she was claimed that day and makes her first start for her new connections. The #4 JEANNIE LIZ beat a lot of these last time out and should be played in the TRIACTOR.

Race #4

1st   -  #1 Callinan | 2nd  -  #3 Hunter’s Lad | 3rd  -  #10 Quiet Edge

COMMENTARY : The #1 CALLINAN looked good winning at this same level a couple of weeks back and with a similar inside post he should be tough to beat once again. The #3 HUNTER’S LAD also won two weeks ago (in a slightly slower timer than my top pick) but that victory was in a maiden race although the way he did it he just might be ready to take on this tougher competition. The #10 QUIET EDGE has a poor draw although there isn’t much early speed in this race so he still might get to set the tempo which will make him a real threat again tonight.

Race #5

1st   -  #10 Jade Bay | 2nd  -  #4 Tribal Secret | 3rd  -  #7 Beautiful Breeze

COMMENTARY : The #10 JADE BAY is the class of the race (at press time there were rumblings that she was scratched) and if she runs she’ll be tough to catch. The #4 TRIBAL SECRET has been pretty consistent throughout the year and with her returning to a sprint I think she’s the main threat to my top pick. The #7 BEAUTIFUL BREEZE is another shortening up in distance after a good try going long; she should get a perfect trip sitting just in behind the speed so I like her chances as well.

Race #6

1st   -  #5 Money X Change | 2nd  -  #2 Postmaster General | 3rd  -  #3 Artic Star

COMMENTARY : The #5 MONEY X CHANGE ran into a tough one last time and had to settle for second at this same level but this evening with all the early speed in the race I think he’ll get to the winner’s circle. The #2 POSTMASTER GENERAL is another that’ll enjoy a quick early tempo and if he doesn’t have to move early again today then I think he has a good shot of beating the #5 MONEY X CHANGE. The #3 ARTIC STAR had a perfect trip to win at the non-two $20,000 tag and if he can get a similar setup then he’ll be a big factor in the stretch as well.

Race #7

1st   -  #1 Entry | 2nd  -  #5 Till The Storm | 3rd  -  #2 Entry

COMMENTARY : The #1 CABRON and the #1a SAVO ISLAND are the best sprinters in the group although both have similar running styles so I’m not sure if both will run but whichever one does will still be very tough to outrun. The #5 TILL THE STORM has been in top form of late and if he can get a decent pace up front then he has a shot of continuing his winning streak. The #2 SNOW MOON looks to be the stronger half of the #2 ENTRY although both have run well at this level in the past.

Race #8

1st   -  #3 Trinidad Bay | 2nd  -  #4 Kings Fjord | 3rd  -  #7 The Devil In Me

COMMENTARY : The #3 TRINIDAD BAY seemed to be better without the blinkers and won’t need to improve much to beat this bunch. The #4 KINGS FJORD raced a little wide in his latest and with him drawing closer to the rail he should have a good shot as well. The #7 THE DEVIL IN ME finished well back in his first try going long but he did suffer from a wide trip so with him being lightly raced I think he’s one that could improve and the price will be right.
