Mike's Race Analysis July 25, 2008

Race #1

1st - #3 Courtay Cutie | 2nd - #4 Sales Gal | 3rd - #6 Goldy Fox

COMMENTARY : The #3 COURTAY CUTIE closed up good ground in her last couple of sprints and strikes me as one that will appreciate this longer trip; she doesn't have to beat too tough of a field so I like her to win it. The #4 SALES GAL will likely be the favourite off of her runner-up effort at this level last time; it would be no surprise to see her win but if she's a short number one has to play against her or pass on the race. THe #6 GOLDY FOX didn't get the best of trips last time out and finished well back but I know she's capable of better so I'll give another shot today.

Race #2

1st - #4 Serengeti Sunrise | 2nd - #2 Hex | 3rd - #6 Quickens

COMMENTARY : The #4 SERENGETI SUNRISE is on a roll right now and with her down slightly in price and facing a field of fillies that real aren't in top form she's going to be very tough to outrun. The #2 HEX is the speed of the race and is also taking a dip in class so she looks like the main threat to my top pick. The #6 QUICKENS was ina cheaper in her latest run but the race was run very quickly for the level and she makes her first start in a barn does well with their limited starters; value play !!

Race #3

1st - #8 Rock Royal | 2nd - #5 Image This | 3rd - #6 Dark Victory

COMMENTARY : The #8 ROCK ROYAL was very quick in her debut but lugged in late impeding another rival an was disqualified back to fourth; she's ome back to work well and looks like she only needs to improve her steering to win today. The #5 IMAGE THIS gave a good account of herself in her debut breaking well from an inside post and running gamely to the wire; she has an experience on most and should improve this afternoon. The #6 DARK VICTORY hails from a good barn and sports a solid work tab so she could be 'live' at first asking.

Race #4

1st - #4 Dalton Green | 2nd - #7 Royal Classic | 3rd - #3 Undersecretary

COMMENTARY : The #4 DALTON GREEN just finished beating a similar group a couple of weeks back and with this race really not faeaturing much speed he looks like a strong wire-to-wire candidate. The #7 ROYAL CLASSIC wasn't reallt involved in his Hastings debut but with a trip over the course he should be more of a factor this time. The #3 UNDERSECRETARY just missed in a tight photo to the #4 DALTON GREEN last time out but with a lack of early pace in the race he appears to be at a big disadvantage although I still think he'll be in the top three.

Race #5

1st - #3 Psammead | 2nd - #1 Market Flair | 3rd - #6 ActingKat

COMMENTARY : The #3 PSAMMEAD turned in an excellent effort in his latest chasing a fast pace and holding well for second money; he'll get Lasix for the first time this afternoon and should be tough to catch. The #1 MARKET FLAIR was out wide chasing a tougher field of $5,000 maidens and managed to save third money; top contender in this easier spot. The #6 ACTING KAT returns to a sprint after an unsuccessful try going long; his last sprint number plots him in the thick of it.

Race #6

1st - #7 Postmaster General | 2nd - #4 Woombroom Express | 3rd - #8 Wonniteinvegas

COMMENTARY : The #7 POSTMASTER GENERAL is down in class and is fortunate enough to find a field composed of mainly need-the-lead types so this is a great opportunity for him today. The #4 WOOMBROOM EXPRESS raced out in the three path and just missed against next-out winner Joy Of The Lord and seems to be versatile enough to sit just off the pace if the fractions are too quick and still run his top race. The #8 WONNITEINVEGAS rated in behind the speed in his last and didn't seem to enjoy it all that much; he gets blinkers and leading rider so I think we'll see more speed out of him today which could lead to a better result.

Race #7

1st - #5 Alarico | 2nd - #1 Freequartersmine | 3rd - #3 Joy Of The Lord

COMMENTARY : The #5 ALARICO is down in price after a disappointing effort with $50,000 company; he finds a field filled with early speed which will give him every opportunity to win the money today. The #1 FREEQUARTERSMINE returns to the claim level after a good run last time; he'll need to be at his best being surrounded by numerous need-the-lead types. The #3 JOY OF THE LORD rated nicely in his last win although he didn't need to fight overly hard for position which helped his cause; he's sharp and must be respected

Race #8

1st - #7 The Saratoga Four | 2nd - #5 Kings Fjord | 3rd - #6 Master Foolish

COMMENTARY : The # THE SARATOGA FOUR gets in light and looks to be the speed of the race which was enough for me to pick him in this very soft spot. The #5 KINGS FJORD has been rested and is down in class; if he can repeat either of his first two races he beats this field for fun. The #6 MASTER FOOLISH has been wandering about in his first two races this year so with him getting a set of blinkers this afternoon I have to give him another shot.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND ENJOY YOUR DAY AT THE RACES !!!
