Mike's Race Analysis August 23, 2008

Race #1

1st  -  #7 Northern Lass | 2nd  -  #2 Jeannie Liz | 3rd   -  #6 Saleslady

COMMENTARY : The #7 NORTHERN LASS has a series of quick morning trials and a great post for her career debut; this barn can get one ready to fire first time out and I’ll gamble that she’s ready to roll. The #2 JEANNIE LIZ has four runner-up efforts at this trip and is definitely the one to beat. The #6 SALESLADY turned in a good effort in her debut and is another that deserves a lot of respect in this dash.

Race #2

1st  -  #3 Serengeti Sunrise | 2nd  -  #5 Random Highs | 3rd  -  #1 Go Strider

COMMENTARY : The # 3 SERENGETI SUNRISE had her three race win streak snapped last time but still ran well to be third; she’s back down at the level where she was claimed and is going to be tough to beat. The #5 RANDOM HIGHS is back in with her own age after a decent effort with older conditional claimers for $20,000; she has speed but there are two speedy fillies inside of her so if she’s to win today she’ll have to sit the trip just off of them. The #1 GO STRIDER makes her first start for a new barn and sports a sharp work but must avoid a pace duel if she’s to stay on for the win.

Race #3

1st   -  #3 P.S. Good N Ready | 2nd  -  #1 What R The Odds | 3rd   -  #4 Bright Spring

COMMENTARY : The # P.S. GOOD N READY scored an easy win on BC Cup day and I’ll side with her over the #1 WHAT R THE ODDS only because of her recent racing activity. Both are talented fillies which makes it tough to decide which is better; looks like it’ll be a showdown between the two from the gate to the wire.

Race #4

1st   -  #8 Arrivee Arrivee | 2nd  -  #9 T Drive | 3rd  -  #2 Daktaari

COMMENTARY : The #8 ARRIVEE ARRIVEE made some progress late in his debut and with a series of impressive works prepping for this easier test I’ll take him to win it. The #9 T DRIVE has shown some ability in his two tries going shorter and is one that will like this longer trip although he’ll need some luck from his outside post. The #2 DAKTAARI will go first time Lasix after a couple of good tries in easier maiden races; this is a much tougher test and he’s likely to get over-bet because of his on-the-board placings in small fields.

Race #5

1st   -  #1 Annemariekathleen | 2nd  -  #6 Bamboo Diva | 3rd  -  #3 Rin Chan

COMMENTARY : The #1 ANNEMARIEKATHLEEN was put away early on the head end last time which contributed to his poor showing as the odds-on favourite; she’s likely to get an easy lead today so I’ll give her another chance. The #6 BAMBOO DIVA is shortening up after a couple of thirds going long and should be a major factor in this heat. The #3 RIN CHAN has been scratched a few times in the past couple of months which is a negative although she can obviously run a bit judging by her morning works; she won’t need to be a superstar to win today.

Race #6

1st   -  #5 Flaming Zianah | 2nd  -  #1 In Vogue | 3rd   -  #3 Zethar

COMMENTARY : The #5 FLAMING ZIANAH was a distant third behind the #1 IN VOGUE last time but with a post change (getting to the outside) and a blinker change things could be different this time. They look like a strong EXACTOR BOX. The #3 ZETHAR has speed and could lead them for awhile (just failed to last with ‘In Vogue’ two back) so she could be a pace factor.

Race #7

1st   -  #7 Holy Mack | 2nd  -  #5 Diamonds Lil Devil | 3rd   -  #4 Rural Route

COMMENTARY : The #7 HOLY MACK has three straight runner-up efforts which is three more than the whole field combined which states that this a pretty soft spot and he should be a short priced winner. The #5 DIAMONDS LIL DEVIL had some excuses in his debut and I’d be willing to give another chance at a big price. The #4 RURAL ROUTE was scratched on parade the last time he was in to go and if his nagging problems are behind him he’s every bit as good as my top pick.

Race #8

1st   -  #5 Almost Time | 2nd   -  #8 Blaze Of Glory | 3rd   -  #6 Free Spirit

COMMENTARY : The #5 ALMOST TIME is in a much better spot today getting away from the budding superstar El Sinaloense and into this maiden race; he’s been purchased privately since his last race and his new connections should get rewarded with a win today. The #8 BLAZE OF GLORY ran very well at long odds in his debut and if he can get a decent trip from his outside draw he could the only one with a shot to knock off the favourite. The #6 FREE SPIRIT exits a quick heat in which he finished third; he’ll get Lasix for his first try around two turns.

Race #9

1st   -  #8 Bocephus | 2nd  -  #5 Acting Kat | 3rd  -  #2 Trinidad Bay

COMMENTARY : The #8 BOCEPHUS is obviously the one to beat after winning at this level (losing the money due to a medication violation) a repeat performance gets him the money. The #5 ACTING KAT had a rough trip in his loss to the #8 BOCEPHUS last time as he was bounced out five wide on the first turn and actually did well to get a small cheque; he’s the logical one to play if you are trying to beat the ‘fave’. The #2 TRINIDAD BAY needs a quick and contested pace if he’s to win but I like him to run in the top three even if the pace is moderate.
