Mike's Race Analysis August 16, 2008
Race #1
1st - #3 Brother Jake | 2nd - #1 Super Red Rabbit | 3rd - #6 Black Austin
COMMENTARY : The #3 BROTHER JAKE is back in for a price after three tries with no-tag maidens; he should get a perfect trip sitting just off of the #1 SUPER RED RABBIT and I think he'll win with that kind of trip. The #1 SUPER RED RABBIT was a solid second at this level last time and if he can sneak away frommy top pick early then he has an excellent shot of winning the money; top two look like a solid EXACTOR BOX. The #6 BLACK AUSTIN has been away from the races from quite some time but looks to be prepared for a good run today.
Race #2
1st - #8 Pedegral | 2nd - #5 Rainier's Prince | 3rd - #7 Search Mode
COMMENTARY : The #8 PEDEGRAL showed excellent speed from the rail in is debut and with him moving to a more favourable post for this trip I think he'll win at a short price. The #5 RAINIER'S PRINCE has been training smartly for his first start and is out of a very nice mare so there are some positive qualities in this one. The #7 SEARCH MODE is another that is bred to be quick and hails from a top barn so he could be 'live' at first asking as well.
Race #3
1st - #3 Canuck Buck | 2nd - #2 Tribunal Man | 3rd - #1 Happy Go Lucky
COMMENTARY : The #3 CANUK BUCK is one of two Giesbrecht trained runners in here and they are both extremely 'live' but I'm leaning to the #3 CANUCK BUCK who is the prefered one of rider Richard Hamel. He turned ina good effort last time and may be the one going in the right direction while his stable-mate #2 TRIBUNAL MAN could be tailing off a bit. The #1 HAPPY GO LUCKY exits a tougher heat in which he failed to threaten; he has some speed and drawing the rail they may elect to head to the lead which would aid his chances.
Race #4
1st - #6 Patriotic | 2nd - #7 Faustine | 3rd - #1 Entry
COMMENTARY :The #6 PATRIOTIC isn't as accomplished as others at this distance but with this race made up horses that are not in form I think he'll be tough to outrun. The #7 FAUSTINE has been in good form of late and should finally get some respect at the mutuels; pace threat. The #1a JUSTIFIABLY hasn't been at his best but he may now be rounding into better form after getting off to a late start this season.
Race #5
1st - #8 Mr. Saturday Dance | 2nd - #5 Knighthood | 3rd - #4 Billy Ghost
COMMENTARY :The #8 MR. SATURDAY DANCE has performed well of late with much tougher company and with the threat of a decent pace in here I like his chances today. The #5 KNIGHTHOOD finished just ahead of my top pick the last time they met; he's definitely a major threat in this one but the price will likely be on the small side whih is a good reason to try and beat him in this competitive event. The #4 BILLY GHOST adds some more talent to an already difficult race; he's bred to love this longer trip so he deserves respect as well.
Race #6
1st - #7 Saratoga Renegade | 2nd - #5 Deadly Zone | 3rd - #3 Annie Laurie
COMMENTARY : The #7 SARATOGA RENEGADE has had some troubles with the higher end fillies after breaking her maiden for $25,000in early May; she'll undoubtedly appreciate the easier company and if she can shake loose early the winner's cheques should belong to her. The #5 DEADLY ZONE turned in a big effort in her first run of the year and if she can improve slightly on that race she could battle for the win. The #3 ANNIE LAURIE finally got a win and could be primed for another big effort; there is enough speed in this dash to help her off-the-pace style so she could be the sleeper.
Race #7
1st - #5 Regal Isolation | 2nd - #8 Peaceful Turzia | 3rd - #1 Entry
COMMENTARY : The #5 REGAL ISOLATION gets back in with three year olds and he should be a big pace threat with this easier group. The #8 PEACEFUL TURZIA is back in sprinting (which is his best distance) today and will be more of a presence than he was going long early last month; he should get a nice trip under Gutierrez and is the one to fear. The #1 SNOW MOON has been a pretty consistent horse all season long and with him being versatile in his running style that will help him a lot this particular race which could set up a number of different ways.
Race #8
1st - #1 Mighty All Star | 2nd - #8 Holy Judgement | 3rd - #3 Share An Otis
COMMENTARY : The #1 MIGHTY ALL STAR looks to be the speed of this race and with him taking a big dip in price he shouldn't be caught. The #8 HOLY JUDGEMENT ran very well at long odds last time and looks to be the main threat to my top selection. The #3 SHARE AN OTIS had a rough trip last time and could surprise some people today if he gets a decent tour around the course.
