Mike's Race Analysis September 8, 2007

Race #1

1st - #6 Zippy Zak | 2nd - #4 Lucky Cahill | 3rd - #2 Fearsome Foursome

COMMENTARY : The #6 ZIPPY ZAK just finished easily dusting off a similar crew two weeks ago and with him getting the same outside post (which is a plus for him) he should get the job done again today. The #4 LUCKY CAHILL has been very sharp in his last three starts and he seems to thrive on the work as this will be his fourth start in four consecutive weeks. The #2 FEARSOME FOURSOME is better at the longer distances but does sprint well on occasion.

Race #2

1st - #2 Cabron | 2nd - #1 Entry | 3rd - #4 Magneto

COMMENTARY : The #2 CABRON gets back into claiming company after two unsuccessful tries with the toughest colts on the grounds; he has speed and the rail so I expect him to lead this field throughout. The #1 duo of #1 SUMMER HOUSE and the sharp #1a LITTLE COUNTY look to be ‘live’ on paper and considering both have good gate speed they should be in a perfect position to outrun my top pick. The #4 MAGNETO has improved a lot in his last two starts and might be the one that nails them all in the stretch if the pace scenario gets heated.

Race #3

1st - #4 Regal Daniell | 2nd - #3 Free Kiss | 3rd - #2 Choice Asset

COMMENTARY : The #5 REGAL DANIELL had a wide trip in her return to Hastings and considering she only lost by a little more than a length she must be respected in this pot with leading rider jumping on board. The #3 FREE KISS closed out ’06 with a string of solid performances and judging by her work-tab she looks ready to roll. The #2 CHOICE ASSET almost pulled off a huge upset (44-1) in her latest and if she can repeat her last race then she’ll in the top three.

Race #4

1st - #8 Badgett's Star | 2nd - #4 Sultry Eyes | 3rd - #7 Just Callme Blonde

COMMENTARY : The #8 BADGETT’S STAR is taking a huge plunge in class which is a concern but if she’s anywhere close to her form of earlier this year she’ll win for fun; good post for her style as well. The #4 SULTRY EYES is sharp right now but runs into a toughie today so she’ll need to be every bit as good today to get close to my top pick. The #7 JUST CALLME BLONDE was a solid runner-up to the #4 SULTRY EYES last time and if she can get a heated pace in front of her then she has a shot for another good paycheque.

Race #5

1st - #8 Sporty Jones | 2nd - #7 My Friend Geoff | 3rd - #5 Candy King

COMMENTARY : The #8 SPORTY JONES was unlucky not to win his career debut as Gutierrez couldn’t quite get him off the rail to put in a good clear stretch run so he had to try and split horses late which is intimidating for a first-timer and he had to settle for second; he should get a nice trip in behind the speed and he’ll be tough from there. The #7 MY FRIEND GEOFF has been very impressive in his last two starts as he’s been racing near some extremely fast fractions and still managing to right in the thick of things late so he deserves a lot of respect as well. The #5 CANDY KING closed up well to be second in his comeback race and if he gets another contested pace then he’ll be the danger in the late going.

Race #6

1st - #7 Just Like Dreads | 2nd - #4 Jusnorton | 3rd - #8 Chivago

COMMENTARY : The #76 JUST LIKE DREADS is facing much easier company dropping into this restricted non-two for $8,000 and I think he’ll run well today. The #4 JUSNORTON is in with older horses for the first time but does have an excellent last race to boast about and if the he’s given a breather on the head end he could be tough as well. The #8 CHIVAGO was a comfortable runner-up last time and if he can get a better trip than the last time he was drawn on the outside then he has a chance to win. TOUGH COMPETITIVE RACE !!!

Race #7

1st - #6 Against The Sky | 2nd - #8 By Magic | 3rd - #1 Peacebethejourney

COMMENTARY : The #6 AGAINST THE SKY is a much better filly going farther but today she should get a fast pace to run at and with Mario opting to stay with her (he could’ve ridden a number of others) I think she’ll be tough to hold off in the late stages. The #8 BY MAGIC is back at the same price that she was claimed for five weeks ago and if she can get a decent trip from her outside post then she should win; she’s the best filly in the race but she may have some troubles with her tricky post. The #1 PEACEBETHEJOURNEY had her four-race winstreak snapped by the #8 BY MAGIC last time but she has a good post and might be able to some revenge this afternoon.

Race #8

1st - #4 Remarkable Miss | 2nd - #6 Dancing Allstar | 3rd - #5 Sophisticated Sis

COMMENTARY : The #4 REMARKABLE MISS looked strong in winning on B.C. Cup day but her task is a much tougher one today and she’ll get a new rider for the third consecutive time; she’s getting better with each start is the huge daughter of Finality and I’ll gamble that her main competition the #6 DANCING ALLSTAR has had her best race already. The latter made a splash in her first start at Woodbine winning by almost seven lengths; she’s been caught in deep stretch in her next two stakes appearances and has since returned to her home province; she doesn’t have a work but is still the obvious one to beat off of those huge races in Toronto. The #5 SOPHISTICATED SIS was a distant third in her Hastings debut after breaking her maiden in Winnipeg; she’s in with two very nice fillies and will need to be much better to threaten either but still she’s the best of the rest.

Race #9

1st - #4 Bright Romance | 2nd - #1 Molly Me Dear | 3rd - #6 Inukshuk

COMMENTARY : The #4 BRIGHT ROMANCE has worked very well for her first two-turn try and with this race coming up a little soft she has a good chance. The #1 MOLLY ME DEAR is in cheaper after her debut in which she finished well back but she bled and will race on Lasix for the first time today and judging by her recent works she could be one that improves. The #6 INUKSHUK made some progress late to get fourth and will be a threat if she comes out of the gate a little better than she has in her first three starts.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND ENJOY YOUR DAY AT THE RACES !!!!
