Mike's Race Analysis October 27, 2007
Race #1
1st - #3 Tamarinda | 2nd - #5 Sunny Remark| 3rd - #1 Hidden Heart
COMMENTARY : The #3 TAMARINDA finally put in all together earlier this month and posted an impressive wire-to-wire score against a similar field; she should be quick enough to get the lead in this spot which will give her a big edge. The #5 SUNNY REMARK turned in a solid effort last time but was caught in deep stretch with open $11,000 mares; she’s up in price but this is a restricted non-three and it really hasn’t come up all that tough so she has a shot if there is a pace duel. The #1 HIDDEN HEART wasn’t a factor in her most recent race with allowance types so she’s down in class today and will need to find the form that she showed when she first arrived in Vancouver.
Race #2
1st - #3 Holy Nova | 2nd - #2 Yoorock Gal | 3rd - #5 Makani
COMMENTARY : The #3 HOLY NOVA had a rough trip in her Hastings debut as she was fanned four wide early and did very well to make a race of it in the stretch; she’s better drawn today and with a race under her belt I think she’ll get her revenge on the #2 YOOROCK GAL who defeated her three weeks back. The latter was put right on the lead on a track that favoured front-runners and with her likely to have a positional advantage on the # HOLY NOVA once again she will definitely be the main danger to my top pick. The #5 MAKANI wasn’t disgraced in her first start with winners and sports a sharp work for today’s race.
Race #3
1st - #2 Sugar N Tabacco | 2nd - #4 Panzer Pride | 3rd - #5 Miss Dealing
COMMENTARY : The #2 SUGAR N TABACCO has by far the best workouts of the first time starters and will also be the shortest price so with this looking like a great spot to debut I have to take him to win it. The #4 PANZER PRIDE has been training in Portland prior to surfacing here in Vancouver for her first career start; he has two solid works since coming to the Terry Jordan barn and is likely very ‘live’ today. The #5 MISS DEALING had some trouble in her return race after a two month break and with a clean trip could round out the TRIACTOR.
Race #4
1st - #3 Kinda Special | 2nd - #1 Dancinfor Diamonds | 3rd - #7 Regal Majesty
COMMENTARY : The #3 KINDA SPECIAL hooked up on a suicidal mission going through some very demanding early splits before tiring late; he should get the lead to himself without using up too much energy and I think stay the entire trip on top. The #1 DANCINFOR DIAMONDS has found a nice home down here at the $5,000 level and has been running very well but his lack of speed may hurt him today which is why I’ve left him in the runner-up spot. The #7 REGAL MAJESTY has also improved since coming down to this tag and if he can get a decent trip from his outside gate then he has a shot for a big piece of the purse.
Race #5
1st - #3 Just Callme Blonde | 2nd - #1 Entry | 3rd - #5 Country Kat
COMMENTARY : The #3 JUST CALLME BLONDE has been better at these longer trips and with no real other speed filly in the race she could have good opportunity to wire this group. The #1 ENTRY is headed by the sharp #1 ALITTLEBITEXTRA who just missed in her latest with better mares and has been solid at this $8,000 taq throughout the year. The #5 COUNTRY KAT has been an unlucky type (although there aren’t too many lucky 1 for 28 horses) that can’t seem to get distance races to fill when she’s been on her game; she’s taken good races out of herself running with very tough company which have contributed to her 0 for 7 season.
Race #6
1st - #8 Cahill Casey | 2nd - #9 Kokopelli Wind | 3rd - #6 Kokeeno
COMMENTARY : The #8 CAHILL CASEY ran reasonably well in her first try down at this level finishing a close third after disputing the pace from an outside draw; she was also running on only five days rest so with better spacing in between races for her this time she should get the money. The #9 KOKOPELLI WIND will race in blinkers and take a significant dip in price after her fifth consecutive unplaced effort with winners; she should improve today. The #6 KOKEENO just missed in her latest at this level and after breaking through the front of the gates prior to the start she did really well to compose herself and put forth a good effort.
Race #7
1st - #4 Dancing Allstar | 2nd - #2 Remarkable Miss | 3rd - #3 Up Sweep
COMMENTARY : The #4 DANCING ALLSTAR is one of the nicest fillies in all of Canada so she should make short work of this group; she relaxed so well in her last sprint I don’t see any problems with her handling the extra quarter-mile. Looks like a $60,000 payday for a public workout. The #2 REMARKABLE MISS was in some trouble behind a slow pace in the Futurity and managed to save third money; she’s bred to love this longer trip so with a clean trip she looks like the only one that might be able to make a race of it. The #3 UP SWEEP is a filly that is on the improve and looked working six panels last week; her win albeit with $15,000 maidens is better than it looks as she was in the four path the entire trip and still drew off for the victory so give her a look for the exotics.
Race #8
1st - #5 Goldy Fox | 2nd - #1 Shady Night | 3rd - #3 Big Deal Lucille
COMMENTARY : The #5 GOLDY FOX is shortening up to a sprint this afternoon after two good efforts (long maiden race didn’t fill) going long; there appears to be plenty of speed in this one so I really like her chances even at this shorter trip. The #1 SHADY NIGHT chased the pace out in the three path in her first start in almost a year so it was no surprise to see her get a little tired in the late going but she should be fitter today and gets the rail so we should see a better result from her this afternoon. The #3 BIG DEAL LUCILLE encountered some trouble in the stretch last time but was still going to be no better than third; she like the #5 GOLDY FOX comes from off-the-pace and will be aided by the all the speed in this dash.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND ENJOY OUR HASTINGS PROGRAM AS WELL AS BREEDERS’ CUP XXIV
