Mike's Race Analysis October 21, 2007
Race #1
1st - #2 Annikat | 2nd - #4 I'mnaughtyandnice | 3rd - #1 Entry
COMMENTARY : The #2 ANNIKAT chased a hot pace going farther last time and almost lasted for the win, she shortens up in distance and should be on tilt for a top performance. The #4 I'MNAUGHTYANDNICE makes her first start for a new barn at an alltime low claiming price; she has speed which will make her dangerous but she still has to prove that she can last six and a half furlongs and the price won't be very good anyways so she's a definite play-against !!! The #1 ENTRY should round out the TRIACTOR.
Race #2
1st - #4 Stylen Jaynee | 2nd - #1 Entry | 3rd - #3 Driver
COMMENTARY : The #4 STYLEN JAYNEE is exiting a couple tough heats going shorter in which she performed reasonably well; I like the way that she worked (1:01.80) last week and will race on Lasix so I think we'll see her best today. The #1a LADY SHOGUN improved noticeably in her second start and a similar effort could get her the money this afternoon. The #3 DRIVER would've been right there for the win last time if she could've found room at the top of the stretch so if the pace scenario is a contested one hen she'll be tough to fend off late.
Race #3
1st - #7 Alarico | 2nd - #3 Cassiar | 3rd - #6 Elegant Avie
COMMENTARY : The #7 ALARICO battled on a brutal pace (22 - 44.80) last weekend and as expected was very tired in the final furlong; he's back very quickly but has a big class edge on his rivals. The #3 CASSIAR was very game in defeat last time out at this level and if he can outfoot the #7 ALARICO early then he'll be a big threat. The #6 ELEGANT AVIE is coming out of a tough heat in which she finished well back but she bled and will race on Lasix so perhaps better is in store today.
Race #4
1st - #2 Vyking Venture | 2nd - #4 Miss Jen | 3rd - #5 Mining Interactive
COMMENTARY : The #2 VYKING VENTURE bested most of these a couple of weeks back finally getting her first win of the season so with a favourable post for her style she should be very tough. The #4 MISS JEN was just in behind the #2 VYKING VENTURE last time but did have every shot to win from the eighth-pole home and just came up second best. The #5 MINING INTERACTIVE is trying this longer trip for the first time after losing to a very sharp filly sprinting three weeks ago; she's not all that consistent leaving the gate but if she leaves there with the field and gets the lead then she has an excellent chance for the win.
Race #5
1st - #2 Saanichton | 2nd - #1 K P Timber | 3rd - #8 Vintner
COMMENTARY : The #2 SAANICHTON was pretty sharp earlier in the year and actually was unlucky not to win a race or two; this race really hasn't come up very tough so I think even off of the big layoff he has a great shot to get a victory. The #1 K P TIMBER was flattered by an extremely fast racing strip last time and will get overbet because of it; he has an excellent chance to win but he's a vulnerable favourite that could easily get beat at 1/1 or less which we are always looking. The #8 VINTNER just broke his maiden against bottom level claimers but is lightly raced and could continue to improve, it's encouraging to see leading rider stay with him on the class hike.
Race #6
1st - #2 Dancer's Halo | 2nd - #3 Big Deal Lucille | 3rd - #7 Veiled Justice
COMMENTARY : The #2 DANCER'S HALO has back-to-back runner-up efforts since coming down to this $5,000 maiden level and if she can repeat her latest run that should be good enough to best this crew. The #3 BIG DEAL LUCILLE is probably better going longer distances but since the mile and a sixteenth race didn't fill she's going to give the sprint maidens a try; she'll need some luck to win it but she should be in the top three even at this shorter trip. The #7 VEILED JUSTICE makes her debut this afternoon and wouldn't need to be overly gifted to win this dash so she merits a long look in this one.
Race #7
1st - #4 Kwik'e Mark | 2nd - #3 Yoodaman | 3rd - #5 Chivago
COMMENTARY : The #4 KWIK'E MARK was unlucky not to win last time as he was on the pace early then when things got a little hectic in the middle of the race he opted to drop back and settle behind the leaders then re-rallied to get the lead on the final bend before yielding late to a 'deep closer'. This race should be run a little more to his liking early so I like him to get the win. The #3 YOODAMAN raced wide the entire journey and finished up a close third; he's getting on an even playing field with his fitness and if my top pick isn't at his best then this guy will get the money. The #5 CHIVAGO had a rough trip last time and finished up reasonably well so he should be given consideration for the exotics.
Race #8
1st - #1 Entry | 2nd - #2 Corone Real | 3rd - #3 Lend Me An Ear
COMMENTARY : The #1 WINDY DAY missed the start by about four lengths in his last and still got up to win the money and that was with $11,000 claimers so with him down for $8,000 today he'll be very tough to outrun. The #2 CORONE REAL was on the sidelines for awhile prior to his last race so I think he'll be far better this time. The #3 LEND ME AN EAR has been pretty solid any time he's been in at or near this claiming level.
Race #9
1st - #7 Miss Jones | 2nd - #4 Zodiacal Light | 3rd - #5 Chamaca
COMMENTARY : The #7 MISS JONES turned in a decent effort in her debut ending up third and with this race coming up pretty soft she has a big chance to get her first career victory. The #4 ZODIACAL LIGHT got a little tired as the favourite in her comeback race which was at a mile and a sixteenth; she'll cut back to a sprint today and she can regain the form she had last fall when she won (but was disqualified) then she'll a big threat. The #5 CHAMACA raced evenly in both of her distance races and might enjoy this shorter trip and Gutierrez staying on board certainly won't hurt either.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND HAVE A GREAT DAY !!!
