Mike's Race Analysis May 27, 2007
Race #1
1st - #2 Call Me Tomorrow | 2nd - #7 Vic's Pick | 3rd - #5 Star Prospector
COMMENTARY : The #2 CALL ME TOMORROW is bred to be fast and judging by his worktab he has plenty of speed, the barn has been going very well and with Gutierrez out of town (in Calgary riding Running Apache for this outfit) it's nice to see Fernando Perez get a shot on a 'live' one. The #7 VIC'S PICK has the most experience in the race as he actually made it through the paddock and post parade last week but couldn't overcome the final hurdle of the starting gate, he was well backed at the mutuels that day and I think he'll get a lot of play again this afternoon. The #5 STAR PROSPECTOR is by the hottest sire in the province Millenium Allstar who's offspring have been excellent two year olds and with the strong connections this one could be very 'live' at first asking as well.
Race #2
1st - #3 Jackson County | 2nd - #1 Dataari | 3rd - #4 Ranglin Road
COMMENTARY : The #3 JACKSON COUNTY is back in with three year olds after a run last week with older and it appears that he's going to get the lead to himself so I think he has great chance taking this group wire-to-wire. The #1 DATAARI is first time starter that has been working very well and with this particular dash not really coming up overly tough I think he has a solid shot if ready. The #4 RANGLIN ROAD exits a 'live' heat, dips down in price and sports a solid workout since his last effort so he could surprise some people at a nice price.
Race #3
1st - #3 Xalibou | 2nd - #6 White Rapids | 3rd - #2 Der Koenig
COMMENTARY : The #3 XALIBOU showed that he was a nice colt in his debut as he finished third after a wide trip, he's gets a better draw today and with that strong race in him he should be very tough to beat. The #6 WHITE RAPIDS also raced well in his seasonal debut checking in second, he'll race on Lasix today but I'm a little concerned that the pace won't be all the lively for him which is why I've left him in the second spot. The #2 DER KOENIG has turned in a couple of even effort so far this year and looks to be one that might be better when they stretch out but today I'll put him in the TRIACTA.
Race #4
1st - #1 Regal Dream | 2nd - #3 Dressed As A Star | 3rd - #4 Royal Tiara
COMMENTARY : The #1 REGAL DREAM was racing with better last year before dropping into this same category for her final start but as it turned out that race was an extremely tough one, this race has come far easier and with her working well for her return she looks to be strong wire-to-wire candidate. The #3 DRESSED AS A STAR hasn't raced in almost two full years but if she can regain some of her form from early in 2005 then she'll be a major factor with these gals. The #4 ROYAL TIARA had every shot to win last time as she sat on a slow pace but faded late and had to settle for second, she has to be better to win today but is still a solid TRIACTA threat.
Race #5
1st - #4 Katie'ssecrettwist | 2nd - #7 Espresso Gal | 3rd - #9 P S Kin
COMMENTARY : The #4 KATIE'SSECRETTWIST has survived two wide trips from outside posts to collect a couple of decent cheques, she finally draws an inside post which should allow her to get a better trip and that's all she should need to get a win. The #7 ESPRESSO GAL got very tired in the stretch after battling near the lead for the first five furlongs and I think she'll be a stronger threat in the stretch this time. The #9 P S KIN just missed in her '07 debut against slightly better so with her back in with the non-two's she should be a major force if she can get a decent trip from her outside post.
Race #6
1st - #3 Howe Sound | 2nd - #1 Entry | 3rd - #4 Lucky Cahill
COMMENTARY : The #3 HOWE SOUND battled with a couple of tough older runners (How Bout Jose and Alferrari) at the $11,000 in his '07 debut and tired late after his pace setting efforts. He takes a drop down and faces a much easier test, he should get a the lead to himself which will make him very tough at this level. The #1 Entry is headed by the #1a FISHERMAN'S FRIEND who was a solid runner-up behind a wire-to-wire winner and if he can get a break and someone challenge my top pick for the lead then he has an excellent chance of winning but if the race plays out the way I think then he'll have to settle for second again. The #4 LUCKY CAHILL had to check sharply on the final bend or he would've been much closer so give him another shot in the exotics.
Race #7
1st - #1 Entry | 2nd - #5 Vulcan's Forge | 3rd - #8 Macho Mo
COMMENTARY : Both the #1 WOLF RUNNING WILD and the #1A POST FALLS look great in this very soft maiden event and if both repeat their last races they will finish one-two. The #5 VULCAN'S FORGE was much better second time out and if he continues to improve he should form the second half of the EXACTA. The #8 MACHO MO disappointed as the 9/5 favourite when racing on Lasix for the first time, he had to go wide on the first turn and didn't get into a good position early but if he gets into a better spot today he could be a factor. He wouldn't need to improve too much to get into the top three.
Race #8
1st - #4 Regal Pusher | 2nd - #5 Montero | 3rd - #6 Katelliena
COMMENTARY : This looks like a great spot for the #4 REGAL PUSHER who would've been a close second to No Ka Oi (she was moved up via disqualification anyways) if she'd had a clear run to the wire, this is a much easier bunch and I think she'll avoid trouble and go right to the front with these gals. The #5 MONTERO looked a little flat in her first start but does have the talent to compete with the #4 REGAL PUSHER. The #6 KATELLIENA did very well in her first try with older mares as she finished third despite getting hung out three wide the entire trip although I fear the same thing happening again today with her outside post but she's still a solid TRIACTA filly.
Race #9
1st - #3 Spaghetti Mouse | 2nd - #7 Mighty Cahill | 3rd - #2 Forceful Intention
COMMENTARY : The #3 SPAGHETTI MOUSE pretty much ran the identical race he did in the 2006 George Royal checking in a no-threat third, he gets to stretch to a better distance for him today and with True Metropolitan in Toronto he's strictly the one to fear. The #7 MIGHTY CAHILL ran well in his seasonal debut which should set him up for a strong race this afternoon, he has tactical speed and can come from well back so there plenty of options for rider Richard Hamel in this race that could set up many different ways. The #2 FORCEFUL INTENTION outran his lofty price in the George Royal to be second, his sprints have been his better races although some of his distance efforts have been okay- the pace scenario will really determine everything for him.
Race #10
1st - #1 Secret Allstar | 2nd - #9 Bluff N Angel | 3rd - #10 C.L.'s Tiger
COMMENTARY : The #1 SECRET ALLSTAR has some decent works for a hot barn and finds himself in a great spot to debut so I'll take a shot on him. The #9 BLUFF N ANGEL was hung out three wide on the pace in his first start so he's worth a look on the class drop as is the #10 C.L.'S TIGER who finished in mid-pack with $15,000 maidens and is down here for $5,000, post hurts though.
