Mike's Race Analysis June 3, 2007
Race #1
1st - #7 Just A Tribute | 2nd - #4 Don Juan's Dream | 3rd - #8 Chilling Kat
COMMENTARY : The #7 JUST A TRIBUTE hooked into a tough group at the maiden $25,000 level and finished a distant seventh so the connections opt to give him an easier test in hopes of turning his form around; he has some speed and should run a lot better in this spot. The #4 DON JUAN'S DREAM was surprisingly on the lead in his latest and lasted until the stretch before tiring in the last eighth of a mile. He's also down in price and should get a good trip sitting just in behind the speed today. The #8 CHILLING KAT wasn't a factor in his career debut but he's down from $35,000 to this $8,000 tag so he should be more dangerous this afternoon. TOUGH RACE - LOTS OF UNPROVEN TYPES !!
Race #2
1st - #5 El Che | 2nd - #9 Proud Review | 3rd - #2 Captain Jade
COMMENTARY : The #5 EL CHE has turned in two solid performances so far this year and is definitely the one to beat. The #9 PROUD REVIEW capitalized on a contested pace in his non-two score sprinting at this same price; he's up in class slightly in this non-three but really hasn't hooked a strong field so he has a good shot of repeating. The #2 CAPTAIN JADE was shuffled back early and lost interest quickly in his first start which was with open $8,000 horses; he's dropping back into a conditional race and should get a perfect trip sitting close to the pace so he'll have every chance to win it if he's good enough.
Race #3
1st - #1 Entry | 2nd - #7 Alferrari | 3rd - #3 Buckeye Bates
COMMENTARY : I like the #1 PROUD SON as he drops in for the $11,000 and finds a field without much speed in it so he looks like a strong wire-to-wire candidate to me. The #7 ALFERRARI had a rough trip last time (4 wide throughout much of the race) and still managed to finish second; he's drawn outside again but if he can get into a decent spot early then he'll be tough as well. The #3 BUCKEYE BATES has been off for almost a year but has been going well in the a.m. so I'll give this classy old dude the third spot in his comebacker.
Race #4
1st - #6 Prosperito | 2nd - #4 Trinity Dancer | 3rd - #3 Land Of Silver
COMMENTARY : The #6 PROSPERITO was very impressive in her career debut and judging by her recent work (48 flat) she seems to have come out of the race in good order so if she repeats her first start today I think she wins the money. The #4 TRINITY DANCER flashed a little speed and then tired in both of her starts last summer before being given the rest of the season off; the wait seems to have paid off as she's been going very well in her morning preps so I'll give her a shot today. The #3 LAND OF SILVER earned a couple of small pay cheques with better in her first two races, she was very wide on the final bend in her latest so she had an excise that day; leading rider jumps aboard so I'll give her another chance.
Race #5
1st - #3 Goldrush Victory | 2nd - #2 Five Wild Cats | 3rd - #5 Jumper
COMMENTARY : This is one of the tougher races on the card with many possible chances, I'm leaning towards the #3 GOLDRUSH VICTORY who has been in two pace battles with pricier company. I think he's better horse when he's rated in behind the speed and I'll gamble that's the trip he'll get. The #2 FIVE WILD CATS turned in a better effort last time and if the pace scenario is a contested one then he has a big shot. The #5 JUMPER looked to be going well at the far turn but really collapsed in the closing stages; it was only his first race of the year and with Gutierrez staying on board this horse could improve a lot second time out.
Race #6
1st - #2 Deputy Allstar | 2nd - #9 Magna Force | 3rd - #5 Market Bell
COMMENTARY : The #2 DEPUTY ALLSTAR looks to be the lone speed so I'll give him top marks although I'm a little concerned with gap of time between his last two works. The #9 MAGNA FORCE has come back to work well after a no-threat run with better; leading rider jumps in the tack so if he can overcome his poor draw he has a big chance. The #5 MARKET BELL is exiting a couple of 'live' maiden races and will appreciate the easier test today; his lack of speed is a problem but at this level he might still be able to get up and win.
Race #7
1st - #3 Badgett's Star | 2nd - #2 La Pistola | 3rd - #5 Great Form
COMMENTARY : The #3 BADGETT'S STAR battled with her classy stable mate APRIL FOOLISH last time and tired late to run third but considering it was her first start it was a huge effort. She takes a slight drop in price and should find the front end to herself which will make her double tough this time. The #2 LA PISTOLA has turned in a couple of game runner-up efforts and if she repeats either race she'll be right there. The #5 GREAT FORM is one that is capable at this level and should get a nice trip right in behind the early leaders.
Race #8
1st - #6 Colondelivery | 2nd - #10 Above The Clouds | 3rd - #4 Answer The Call
COMMENTARY : The #6 COLONDELIVERY ran into a tough 'Commodore' last time and did well to finish second; this dash has come up much easier and I really like his chances this afternoon. The #10 ABOVE THE CLOUDS is certainly good enough to win at this price but his bad luck continues with the post draws; he'll need some good fortune to go his way if he's to win this heat but I still think he'll be in the TRIACTA even with a rough trip. The #4 ANSWER THE CALL had a brutal trip and still defeated conditional $20,000 claimers and I think he's ready for this next step; he gets a new pilot and could surprise at long odds.
Race #9
1st - #7 Ronaldino | 2nd - #6 Gold Ticket | 3rd - #5 Fury's Allstar
COMMENTARY : The #7 RONALDINO is an impressive looking colt that has a bright future and he'll get a good test today in this first level allowance. He has the speed to get into a good spot early and I'm not convinced that he needs to be on the lead although in this big field being near the head end is a tactical plus; Valdez takes off of the #6 GOLD TICKET which I think says a lot. The #6 GOLD TICKET battled hard on the lead (I don't think the horse really liked being hustled) and lost a heartbreaker in the late going. He'll probably be rated off of the speed today so if the pace is hot then look for him to be flying in the stretch. The #5 FURY'S ALLSTAR gets the acid test today after his effortless seven length score against $25,000 maidens.
Race #10
1st - #6 Devilinyourheart | 2nd - #5 Somekindatuff | 3rd - #1 Atchelitz Lad
COMMENTARY : The #6 DEVILINYOURHEART is stretching out to his better distance this afternoon and with a pace battle looming I think he'll be tough to beat. The #5 SOMEKINDATUFF improved noticeably in his second start with addition of Lasix and blinkers; he scratched out of a race yesterday (I thought he had a great shot) in favour of this spot going long. TOUGH CALL !! The #1 ATCHELITZ LAD is back down at the level where he was claimed and is bred to like this longer trip.
THANKS FOR JOINING US ON-LINE AND HAVE A GREAT AFTERNOON !!!
