Mike's Race Analysis July 7, 2007

Race #1

1st - #5 Wanna Be Foxy | 2nd - #2 Land Of Silver | 3rd - #4 Dramatic Charmer

COMMENTARY : The #5 WANNA BE FOXY was a good fourth last time with better and with this being a much easier assignment I like her to get the job done. The #2 LAND OF SILVER is sitting on a win but unfortunately finds a race without any speed in it to help her out; she'll need to stay closer to the pace if she's going to win. The #4 DRAMATIC CHARMER ran an improved race last time out finishing a closing second at the $8,000 level; she's up for $15,000 today and finds a couple of tough fillies in the lineup so she'll need to be even better than she was that day if she's to win.

Race #2

1st - #1 Superior Straits | 2nd - #3 Devilinyourheart | 3rd - #4 Snepsts

COMMENTARY : The #1 SUPERIOR STRAITS is facing easier competition and stretching out to a distance that I think he'll like; he was passing horses in a race that didn't set up well for a 'closer' which I thought was encouraging and I'll gamble that he's closer to the pace at this longer trip and gets the victory. The #3 DEVILYOURHEART was a little better last time checking in third and one of these days he'll pull out a win and perhaps that day is today ?? The #4 SNEPSTS was terrible out of the gate (broke eight lengths behind the field) again last time and he never got in the race; he's back down at a level where he was competitive and he should like the distance although he'll still need to break better to get the win. TRIACTA THREAT !!!

Race #3

1st - #2 My Only Love | 2nd - #7 Sultry Eyes | 3rd - #3 Alittlebitextra

COMMENTARY : The #2 MY ONLY LOVE looks to be the controlling speed in her first distance test of the year; she was very impressive in winning her last conditional race and I think she's ready to handle these open company mares. The #7 SULTRY EYES had a game score sprinting with similar a couple of weeks ago but she will need to improve on her mile and a sixteenth form to win today. The #3 ALITTLEBITEXTRA continues her way down the claiming ladder in search of a victory; there isn't much early pace in here so even at this level it may be tough for her to get up and win. TRIACTA THREAT !!

Race #4

1st - #1A Justifiably | 2nd - # 3 Leo's County Kat | 3rd - #4 Bullseye Bill

COMMENTARY : The #1a JUSTIFIABLY turned in by far his best race in a long time but he simply ran into a monster (Rip Cord) that day. This race appears to have come up much easier so I'll take him to win it. The #3 LEO'S COUNTY KAT has amazingly only tried this trip once and to me he seems like the one-paced type that would be better at this distance; let's give him a shot !! The #4 BULLSEYE BILL ran better last time and looks to be the best of the rest.

Race #5

1st - #1 Lord Vic | 2nd - #6 Corone Real | 3rd - #7 Torquemada

COMMENTARY : The #1 LORD VIC is taking a big dip in price and stretching out to a distance that he should enjoy; he's drawn well and will be tough with his winning pilot returning to the saddle. The #6 CORONE REAL has been a pleasant surprise since stretching out to a mile and a sixteenth and actually ran extremely well last time as he was hung out four deep on the first turn then three wide on the second so for him to be in the mix late was quite impressive; solid pace factor !! The #7 TORQUEMADA is a reliable TRIACTA player at this trip.

Race #6

1st - #3 Raymer Road | 2nd - #1 Rip Cord | 3rd - #2 Fearsome Foursome

COMMENTARY : The #3 RAYMER ROAD recently won a 'live' heat' that has produced a couple of next-out winners and this is a tough trainer/jock (almost 40%) combo to beat this year. The #1 RIP CORD crushed an easier field of $5,000 claimers but the time was so strong that he must be respected in this spot. The #2 FEARSOME FOURSOME was re-claimed by trainer Ned Sams and is always a top threat at this level and distance.

Race #7

1st - #2 Calendar Girl | 2nd - #5 Pretty Maid | 3rd - #8 Loving Laur

COMMENTARY : The #2 CALENDAR GIRL trained here at Hastings for much of the spring and is finally making her debut in a race in Vancouver; she obviously has a ton of talent and I'll forgive for her losses in Toronto (too tough) and Calgary (tough track and a salty California shipper) this division is wide open right now with SUVA skipping the last two races and I think she's ready for a big effort against a soft group. The #5 PRETTY MAID looks like the best of the rest off of her score at this distance four weeks ago; she looks like she's still getting better and that bodes well for her supporters today. The #8 LOVING LAUR is the 'wild card' in this one; she has the pedigree and is gradually getting more professional on the track so if the pace scenario is to her liking then she could surprise some people.

Race #8

1st - #1 Sir Luther | 2nd - #4 Exploding | 3rd - #3 Rank Six

COMMENTARY : The #1 SIR LUTHER looked great in his debut finishing third after battling hard on the pace and was claimed that day; he's drawn the rail and comes back at the same level so I like him to go wire-to-wire. The #4 EXPLODING was hurt by a slow pace in his latest and did well to get second money; he'll need some luck to win but I think he'll be in the TRIACTA. The #3 RANK SIX is an interesting newcomer that hails from a barn that has sent out some 'live' first timers of late so watch this one in the paddock he could be ready.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND HAVE A GREAT AFTERNOON AT HASTINGS !!!
