Mike's Race Analysis July 27, 2007
Race #1
1st - #7 Buckarulmann | 2nd - #2 Tartufo | 3rd - #3 Magneto
COMMENTARY : The #7 BUCKARULMANN has some nice drills for his debut; he didn't cost much at the Washington sale last year but he seems to have some run to him and I like the outside post at this short trip so I'll give him a shot. The #2 TARTUFO is another with some decent morning trials and these connections have been known to have one ready at first asking. The #3 MAGNETO raced a little better last time out but shortens back to three and half furlongs which is a bit of a surprise considering he really isn't very quick; he'll be running on late for the TRIACTA.
Race #2
1st - #7 Jusnorton | 2nd - #4 Ranglin Road | 3rd - #2 Slick Victor
COMMENTARY : The #7 JUSNORTON has run well with better lately and with him taking a class drop today I like him to win it. The #4 RANGLIN ROAD is also dropping down in price but doesn't sport the same form as my top pick although I think this guy will improve in this spot. The #2 SLICK VICTOR closed with a rush to get the money in his maiden score and with the speedy #5 SECRET ALLSTAR in the race he's assured of a quick early tempo so he could be a big threat in the stretch again today.
Race #3
1st - #1 Tappen To Time | 2nd - #4 Ms Alberta | 3rd - #6 Vye Me To The Moon
COMMENTARY : The #1 TAPPEN TO TIME spent too much time chasing a silly pace and it cost her; look for her to ridden a little more conservatively today and we should see a better result from her. The #4 MS ALBERTA showed a little more run in her latest (which was going long) so perhaps she's on the improve and with a possible pace battle she could be the one that benefits in the lane. The #6 VYE ME TO THE MOON will need to harness her keen interest early if she's to win but she's getting closer to that first victory since last spring.
Race #4
1st - #3 Land Of Silver | 2nd - #9 Miss Jen | 3rd - #6 About Midnight
COMMENTARY : I'll gamble that something will happen to liven up the pace and help the #3 LAND OF SILVER who ran into a slow tempo in her latest which caused to wind up a no-threat fourth. She's in with easier today so she won't need too much help to win. The same goes for the #9 MISS JEN who finished just in behind my top pick in her career debut; she didn't get the best draw so she'll need some luck. The #6 ABOUT MIDNIGHT could be the controlling speed which would give her a big edge in this dash.
Race #5
1st - #2 Saanichton | 2nd - #1 Shutup N Pay | 3rd - #3 Fire Boss
COMMENTARY : The #2 SAANICHTON fell victim to an uncontested early leader (Tyler The Miler) last time and had to settle for second after running a win-type race at this level; I'm a little concerned with the lack of speed again today but I'll hope that he lays closer to the pace from his inside post. The #1 SHUTUP N PAY had sparks flying off of his heels last time getting a half in 44.80 which is very rare at this price so if he can cool his jets early then he has a shot. The #3 FIRE BOSS has been very consistent this year hitting the board in his last three starts (had some tough posts) so I look for him to round out the TRIACTA.
Race #6
1st - #4 Alferrari | 2nd - #3 Agro | 3rd - #7 Above The Clouds
COMMENTARY : The #4 ALFERRARI is a tough runner that is always right on the money at this level so I'll look for another good performance from him. The #3 AGRO might get set up nicely today with the threat of a pace duel. The #7 ABOVE THE CLOUDS will have to overcome an outside draw but maybe a this lower level it really won't matter. STRICTLY THE ONE TO BEAT !!
Race #7
1st - #3 Regal Dream | 2nd - #5 Princess Alex | 3rd - #1 By Magic
COMMENTARY : The #3 REGAL DREAM looked good in winning her last sprint with easier competition in a good time; she'll still need to prove that she can go long although her pedigree says she can and I'll gamble that she can stay the trip. The #5 PRINCESS ALEX is razor sharp and in at a distance that she's quite accomplished at but there is some other speed in this one so she won't have things as easy as she did four weeks back. STILL A MAJOR THREAT !! The #1 BY MAGIC hasn't been able to get a sprint race to go for an eternity (almost two months) and it'll be tough on her to run long after the layoff but she still deserves respect in this spot that isn't all that tough of a $20,000 claimer.
Race #8
1st - #2 Big Deal Lucille | 2nd - #6 Marysville | 3rd - #1 Mystical Act
COMMENTARY : The #2 BIG DEAL LUCILLE closed up nicely against a slow pace going long in her latest signaling to me that she's on the improve and with this race having a fair amount of early speed in it I think she'll make her presence felt in the stretch. The #6 MARYSVILLE ran a much improved race going long last time and even with this race getting shortened (it was originally scheduled at a mile and a sixteenth but failed to get enough entries) I like her chances. The #1 MYSTICAL ACT almost went wire-to-wire in her first try on a fast track; she's been a lot better in her last two and will win a race very soon.
