Mike's Race Analysis August 4, 2007

Race #1

1st - #4 Deputy Allstar | 2nd - #5 Rank Six | 3rd - #3 K P Timber

COMMENTARY : The #4 DEPUTY ALLSTAR looks to be the speed of the race and is also taking a drop in class after being claimed in June; this race has come up overly tough so I think he can lead this field throughout. The #5 RANK SIX raced a little greenly in the slop which contributed to his disappointing final showing; he'll get easier company and a fast track as well and I also like Alvarado sticking with him. The #3 K P TIMBER has an excellent pedigree and brilliant works but one must wonder why it's taken him so long to get to the races. TOUGH CALL ???

Race #2

1st - #3 Western Roller | 2nd - #4 Max Day | 3rd - #7 Equity Gainer

COMMENTARY : The #3 WESTERN ROLLER closed up well behind a slow pace which was encouraging and considering it was only his second start of his career there's certainly room for more improvement. The #4 MAX DAY was stuck in behind that same slow tempo and when it came time to sprint away he did not but I don't think he's a horses that wants to be covered up so look for him to try and set the pace. The #7 EQUITY GAINER had a perfect trip up the rail to get second at long odds; he'll need a similar trip to get on the board again.

Race #3

1st - #3 Wings Of An Eagle | 2nd - #6 Raymer Road | 3rd - #7 Sideline

COMMENTARY : The #3 WINGS OF AN EAGLE just missed with slightly better and with this $8,000 claimer not coming up all that tough he should get back into the winner's circle. The #6 RAYMER ROAD had a rough trip last time on a track he hated so he's definitely worth another look back on a fast strip. The #7 SIDELINE has won his last two starts running through his conditions; he gets in with tougher but is very sharp.

Race #4

1st - #7 With Vision | 2nd - #5 Hidden Heart | 3rd - #2 Cahill Casey

COMMENTARY : The #7 WITH VISION was pressured on the pace in her latest and still managed to hold second money; there isn't much other speed in here so she might find herself loose on the lead. The #5 HIDDEN HEART has been purchased privately since her last race and will have to adapt quickly to her new surroundings; she's bred to be a turf filly so it'll be interesting to see how she handles regular dirt (she's raced on the poly-track) for the first time. The #2 CAHILL CASEY showed far more interest early in her latest but it cost her as she didn't have much left for the stretch drive; it was just her first race since late May so I'll give her another chance and hope that she's not as sharp early today.

Race #5

1st - #9 Ruthwell | 2nd - #10 Chivago | 3rd - #1 Torquemada

COMMENTARY : The #9 RUTHWELL just missed in his first try going long this year and I think he'll improve off of that race so he looks like a 'single' or 'key' for me. The #10 CHIVAGO has been much better in his sprints this year so I think he's set up for a big race at his favoured mile and a sixteenth trip; my only concern is the outside post. The #1 TORQUEMADA gets back on a fast track after his streak of four races being on-the-board was snapped in the slop.

Race #6

1st - #1 Diamond Notebook | 2nd - #7 Dancing Melody | 3rd - #9 Rosada

COMMENTARY : The #1 DIAMOND NOTEBOOK has been doing some impressive things in the a.m. and if she can beat the #1 post then I think she'll get the money. The #7 DANCING MELODY missed the break in her debut yet still rescued third money in a fast heat; she's come back to work well so she's obviously very 'live' as well. The #9 ROSADA finished a solid fourth in that same quick heat and if she can get a decent trip then she has an excellent chance.

Race #7

1st - #6 Osolucky | 2nd - #1 Entry | 3rd - #5 Agro

COMMENTARY : The #6 OSOLUCKY is back down at the level where he just missed winning two starts ago and with this race coming up pretty soft the level he should win the money. Both the #1 LOOKING AFTER BIZ and the #1a DALTON GREEN are sharp and doing well and either could pose a strong threat to my top pick. The #5 AGRO just got up to win a sprint last weekend which was his first victory in two years; he's back in just 8 days and going long but with this race not coming up tough he could be right there again.

Race #8

1st - #1 Eppie's Girl | 2nd - #4 Afleet B's | 3rd - #8 Dashboard Daisy

COMMENTARY : The #1 EPPIE'S GIRL should win this dash if she breaks from the gate; she's had some major problems and they've had to school her many mornings to get off of the 'stewards list' in order to run again. I saw her break Wednesday morning with another horse and she left there like a rocket so I'll gamble that she'll be like that at gametime. The #4 AFLEET B'S had some cornering problems in her debut but she's been given plenty of time to get things sorted out and has been working very nicely for her return. The #8 DASHBOARD DAISY ran much better in her latest and should be in the top three again today.
