Mike's Race Analysis August 24, 2007

Race #1

1st - #4 All Is Calm | 2nd - #2 Justifiably | 3rd - #5 Sworn Free

COMMENTARY : The #4 ALL IS CALM looked good in his latest race finishing a fast closing second in a very quick time; this race has three mares and three geldings in it so this is a pretty easy spot for him. The #2 JUSTIFIABLY didn’t finish all that far behind his stable-mate last time and will have an excellent shot to win today if he can stay close to what should be a slow early tempo. The #5 SWORN FREE could be the speed of the race and if left alone early he could surprise.

Race #2

1st - #3 James Creek Red | 2nd - #2 Cagey Fox | 3rd - #4 Lil Victor G

COMMENTARY : The #3 JAMES CREEK RED chased a quick pace going eleven furlongs in a tough Starter Allowance test on B.C. Cup day; he’s in a much easier spot today and should be tough to beat at this level. The #2 CAGEY FOX is another exiting that tough B.C. Cup race although he wasn’t a factor at any point; his last race at this same tag he was a game runner-up to the streaking Great Prince so if he can repeat that effort he’ll be a strong threat. The #4 LIL VICTOR G showed surprising speed in his latest and kept the lead throughout; his task is much tougher this afternoon but this race doesn’t feature any speed in it so he automatically becomes a contender with his probable pace advantage.

Race #3

1st - #1 Money X Change | 2nd - #6 Infinite Wealth | 3rd - #5 Desert Alf

COMMENTARY : The #1 MONEY X CHANGE has had a string of conservative works until his latest blast out of the gate in 35.20 and I’ll hope he can reproduce that type of speed this race. The #6 INFINITE WEALTH has a couple of excellent gate works and will debut on the Lasix program. The #5 DESERT ALF isn’t really bred for this short race but he seems to have a lot more speed than his older (Spaghetti Mouse, Aragorn) siblings.

Race #4

1st - #7 Northern Rainbow | 2nd - #3 Magneto | 3rd - #6 Inukshuk

COMMENTARY : The #7 NORTHERN RAINBOW got into a speed duel in his first try around two turns and with only one five-eighths work going into that race it wasn’t surprising that he was tired in the stretch; he’s come back with a good work and looks to be the lone speed so I expect him to last a lot longer on the head end this time. The #3 MAGNETO was a solid runner-up in his last and a repeat effort puts him right in the mix again today. The #6 INUKSHUK broke a little better last time and was a closing third but with no real speed in the lineup he’ll need to be even better out of gate if he’s get any more than third money.

Race #5

1st - #2 Marysville | 2nd - #8 Wanna Be Foxy | 3rd - #4 Left To Chance

COMMENTARY : The #2 MARYSVILLE was going to be right there for the win last time if she hadn’t been impeded at the quarter-pole and forced to check very sharply so as long as she stays clear of trouble she should get the job done today. The #8 WANNA BE FOXY was the guilty party in that DQ which resulted in her being placed fourth; she had every shot to win last time which is why I’ve gone to the #2 MARYSVILLE but I still like her chances of running in the money. The #4 LEFT TO CHANCE had a rough trip the last time that she ran which was with slightly better maidens; I think she’s a better filly at this longer trip and might even win today.

Race #6

1st - #3 Celt | 2nd - #7 Above The Clouds | 3rd - #2 Arizona Drifter

COMMENTARY : The #3 CELT is back down to his winning level and with no other speed in this dash he should win at a short price. The #7 ABOVE THE CLOUDS should take the trip just off of the speedy #3 CELT and if that one falters then he’ll win and if he doesn’t then he looks like the second half of the EXACTOR. The #2 ARIZONA DRIFTER is on a bit of a roll winning back-to-back races and I like him to be in the top three.

Race #7

1st - #5 Galica | 2nd - #3 Princess Alex | 3rd - #1 With Vision

COMMENTARY : The #5 GALICA is getting much easier assignment today after finishing last on B.C. Cup day in the Distaff; she’ll be happy to be away from the like of Monashee and Starlite Strike and she’ll re-united with the pilot that won her only race in the past two years so this is a great opportunity for her to get her first win of the season. The #3 PRINCESS ALEX is very sharp right now and looked good in winning at the $20,000 tag despite being chased on the pace; if she gets the lead easily then she’ll be tough to catch. The #1 WITH VISION is a three year old filly that just broke her maiden and with filly races going long failing to fill she’s going up against the older mares as she tries to get on the B.C. Oaks trail.

Race #8

1st - #1 Entry | 2nd - #3 Steady Pace | 3rd - #7 Wanna Be Silver

COMMENTARY : The #1 TRIBAL SECRET was a good third in her first try around two turns considering she got nothing out of her career debut; she should improve and has a strong entry-mate coming out of the Terry Jordan barn to strengthen the chances of the #1 entry. The #3 STEADY PACE just missed in her first start on Lasix and with her good gate speed she’ll be the one to catch. The #7 WANNA BE SILVER closed up nicely in her debut going three and a half furlongs and with a nice breeze in 1:02.80 she looks to be set up for a good effort today.
