Mike's Race Analysis August 12, 2007

Race #1

1st - #6 Sharp Chevron | 2nd - #5 Soldiers Return | 3rd - #1 Arkansas Bankroll

COMMENTARY : The #6 SHARP CHEVRON wasn't beaten all that far last time and with a pace duel looming he should get a perfect trip just in behind the speed and I think he can win this dash. The #5 SOLDIERS RETURN battled on the pace last time and almost lasted for the win; he's very 'live' in this spot but I'm a little concerned with a couple of speedsters that are drawn inside of him that could cause him some grief. The #1 ARKANSAS BANKROLL has been very solid at this level and if he can avoid a pace battle then he has a shot as well.

Race #2

1st - #7 Rampoldi | 2nd - #1 Cahill Ruler | 3rd - #2 Saint Barz

COMMENTARY : The #7 RAMPOLDI is gradually moving inward in the post draws (fourth consecutive time he has drawn the farthest out) and actually ran a winning race in his latest but unfortunately didn't get the money; a repeat effort gets the money this time. The #1 CAHILL RULER hasn't raced in over a year so it's a bit of a gamble to take him on top; talent is there but obvious soundness issues. TOUGH CALL !! The #2 SAINT BARZ had a rough trip in his most recent race but has drawn a better post for his style so I expect a better result today.

Race #3

1st - #2 Mundare | 2nd - #3 Sophisticated Star | 3rd - #1 Annikat

COMMENTARY : The #2 MUNDARE really impressed me last time as she battled in the three path on a hot pace and was still very game all the way to the wire; she has a tough one drawn beside her but the way she's going I think she can beat her. The #3 SOPHISTICATED STAR is taking a big drop in class and looks like the logical wire-to-wire winner. The #1 ANNIKAT has been freshened up and has turned in a couple of good works for her return and if the top two get into a heated battle then this gal looks like the one that will benefit.

Race #4

1st - #5 If I'm Spared | 2nd - #3 Arizona Drifter | 3rd - #6 Forecastor

COMMENTARY : The #5 IF I'M SPARED is back in town after a successful campaign in Alberta, he's prepped well for his return and really hasn't drawn too tough of a field so with him being aggressively spotted at this $11,000 tag he should win today. The #3 ARIZONA DRIFTER got a much needed victory (first win since his two year old season) a couple of weeks ago and if the speed gets a little tired in the stretch he could win again. SOLID TRIACTA RUNNER !! The #6 FORECASTOR has had an excellent season so far and he's been very solid at or near this level but with him being on the outside it could be a little tough for him to clear which is why I've left him in the third spot.

Race #5

1st - #4 Great Prince | 2nd - #1 Proud Review | 3rd - #5 Fearsome Foursome

COMMENTARY : The #4 GREAT PRINCE has easily run through his conditions winning two in a row and his latest in a very quick time; I think he's ready for the tougher competition and will keep his winning streak intact. The #1 PROUD REVIEW gets back on a fast track after a try with the Starter Allowance types; he wasn't disgraced at all when he ran for $15,000 and if the pace scenario is lively then this guy has a good shot. The #5 FEARSOME FOURSOME just finished winning at this same tag but this race has come up considerably tougher so he'll need to be even better to win this afternoon.

Race #6

1st - #3 Prosperito | 2nd - #4 Mayne's Finale | 3rd - #1 Dressed As A Star

COMMENTARY : The #3 PROSPERITO is jammed right in for $8,000 after easily breaking her maiden with $15,000 mares; she appears to be the main speed so I think she'll be tough to catch again today. The #4 MAYNE'S FINALE had a rough trip in her latest and is better drawn for her 'stalking' style so she should improve. The #1 DRESSED AS A STAR is down at the level and distance that seems to bring out the best in her so she's another that will be a tougher rival for her opponents this time.

Race #7

1st - #7 Ghost Pirate | 2nd - #3 Buckaroo Lou | 3rd - #6 Roque River

COMMENTARY : The #7 GHOST PIRATE should be able to clear and get the lead from his outside post and with this $25,000 event coming up a bit easier than the last I think he'll go all the way on the head end. The #3 BUCKAROO LOU turned in an even effort finishing a no-threat fourth but I'll give him one more chance as he's going to get a perfect trip directly behind the speed. The #6 ROQUE RIVER will appreciate the easier opponents that are served up today; he's a better colt than his recent form indicates so he also deserves another chance in this dash.

Race #8

1st - #6 Woombroom Express | 2nd - #7 Allison's Tiger | 3rd - #3 Wannabe a Star

COMMENTARY : The #6 WOOMBROOM EXPRESS is one of many Rob Maybin two year olds that seem to be going very nicely in the a.m.; there is lots of speed in the pedigree and with an excellent final gate drill in 36 flat I'll take him to win. The #7 ALLISON'S TIGER has good works and comes from a strong barn. The #3 WANNABE A STAR is a full brother to the current track record holder (Wanabe Klassy) so don't take this one too lightly off of his conservative works.
