Race Analysis - Sunday, May 30

Analysis by Randy Goulding

RACE ONE: VELOCITRON really wants more distance but she just missed in a similar sprint and she has some tactical speed in a race where it is hard to say which one will be leading the way early. She also gets some weight off with last years leading apprentice picking up the mount from the suspended Perez. GOTTHEGREENLIGHT showed more speed in some of her races at Emerald last summer so it wouldn't be surprising to see her a bit closer to the pace in her second start here. Her first was a beauty as she skimmed the rail the whole way and got up in the final strides. Nice interim work since she ran is also encouraging. CAROLYN'S MONARCH took a small step forward in her second start this year and could be ready for a peak effort in the third start of her current form cycle. VYING STAR lost any chance she had at the start of her latest and could make some noise if she leaves there running.

RACE TWO: LA NORIA easily has the best Beyer Speed Figures in the field and she could be sitting on a big effort after showing some improvement in her second start this year. She also drops in price and moves closer to the rail. Add it all up and she looks like the winner, especially if Perez can get her involved early. SAINTSBURY flopped as the chalk when she dropped to this level for her latest and other than getting forced out a little bit on the stretch turn she didn't have any noticeable excuses for her dull effort. This came up pretty weak and it wouldn't be surprising to see her rebound with a better effort in the third start of her current form cycle. OLLIE KAT broke sharply and then was taken off the pace in her latest and given the shape of this race she should be involved early with the move to an inside post. FEELIN FREE has worked well enough and if she can run at all she should make her presence known here.

RACE THREE: ELUSIVE WAYS adds blinkers and takes a substantial drop after running a decent race in his initial start this year. Over the past five years Condilenios is 15 percent when he drops them into a maiden claiming race and 14 percent with horses running with blinkers for the first time. The interim work is there and anything close to his usual race easily wins this. GAME SAVVY tired after setting moderate fractions when he debuted in a B.C-bred maiden race for this price. He is certainly eligible to move forward with a race under his belt and could take them a long way if he breaks alertly from his inside post. ALYBYE ON FIRE came back with a sold 5-furlong move after running a big race in his initial start this year and it was just his second overall. His trainer is doing a very good job with her small string of horses and it looks like she has this guy ready for another big effort.

RACE FOUR: LUCKY ON THE RIVER is stepping up in price but comes back for the same condition following his sharp win in his first try over this track. He posted a solid Beyer Speed Figure and with his good tactical speed he should get a nice trip from just off of what figures to be a lively pace. CABRON drops to a new low after showing some early interest before fading versus much tougher. It has been a while since he's been a serious factor in a race but this is a pretty substantial drop and he should appreciate the class relief. POSTMASTER GENERAL spotted the field quite a few lengths when he broke poorly in his latest and he looked like he was full of run when he had to check pretty hard going around the first turn. He certainly fits here and could be dangerous with a clean trip. SLICKSTER has speed, drew the rail, and could be gone if they leave him alone up front.

RACE FIVE: WIND STORM hasn't been able to keep up with Concert Music in two straight races but it is hard to say how good Concert Music, who is undefeated, really is. We do know WIND STORM is a very nice sprinter and there should be plenty of speed to set up her good late move. SMOKIN DANIELLE was impressive winning a similar ace on May 16 and could either move forward or bounce like she did in her second start following a long layoff last year. Most of the time she is right in the thick of things sprinting, so it is more likely that she’ll be a major factor again today. HEAVEN ON HOLD has been away since last August but she looked pretty sharp in her 5-furlong move May 24 and her trainer can certainly have them ready to go coming off of this kind of layoff. RESTLESS LADY has also looked sharp this spring and appears to be ready for a big effort coming off the bench.

RACE SIX: SPAGHETTI MOUSE should be ready to stretch out to a middle distance after two sprints and he figures to either control the tempo right from the start or sit just off of what figures to be a moderate pace. Either way, the race sets up perfectly for him and if he's on top of his game he'll be tough to beat. That is a big if, though. KRAZY KOFFEE will also appreciate the added yardage and the only concern is that they probably won't be going all that fast up front. He did win the B.C. Cup Classic by forcing the issue early so he should be able to stay reasonably close. GANBEI made as strong late move in his latest sprint and he has never lost going this far so the added yardage certainly works in his favor. He is also versatile and Hamel should be able to put him into a stalking position early if they are walking up front.

RACE SEVEN: MALAKWA has been impressive in her works all spring and could be tough to catch if she breaks alertly. She is a half-sister to Mountain Musician who won a couple of route races and placed in the 1 1/16 miles Ascot Graduation so she should be able to handle a two-turn sprint. WE'REGOODTOGO had to wait for racing room on the stretch turn and then finished full of run once she found a clear path in the stretch. She should be good to go with a race under her belt and it wouldn't be surprising to see Hamel put her into the race a little earlier leaving from her inside post. She is also a half-sister to $282K multiple stakes winner Slewpast, so the breeding is certainly there. FINALITY PHILLY ran two solid races as a 2-year-old and from the looks of her sharp works she should be ready for a big effort coming off the bench.
