Mike's Race Analysis June 21, 2008

Race #1

COMMENTARY : The #4 DRAFTING FOR SPEED has a solid work tab and a strong pedigree and is nicely drawn for this distance. The #1 ENTRY both come from a top barn and must be respected even though the works are on the slow side. The #3 FINAL PLEASURE outran her lofty odds in her debut and has the experience edge on most of her rivals.

Race #2

1st   -  #1 Entry | 2nd  -  #5 La Bikina | 3rd   -  #6 A Cut Above 

COMMENTARY : The #1 RAYITO DE LUNA has a series of good works for her debut and this barn has done very well with their two year olds this year; the #1a CIELO ROJO is from the family of multiple winner at Hastings Tipsy Pete and has similar works to her entrymate so both appear to have good chance. The #5 LA BIKINA closed up nicely in her career debut and looks like a filly that will like this longer trip; she makes her first start for a new barn. The #6 A CUT ABOVE has plenty of mileage under her belt and Alvarado looks like he had his choice of a few in here and has opted for him.

Race #3

COMMENTARY : The #7 D L MINT is coming out of some tough $8,000 maiden events that she has performed well in so with her dropping down to the bottom today she should be tough to beat. The #1 YUKON DORIS turned in a decent effort last time finishing a close third at this level; she has speed and the rail and looks like the main threat to my top pick. The #10 SAVAHANA hasn’t drawn very well for her return to the races but gets leading rider to pilot her; she won’t need to be overly talented to be a factor.

Race #4

1st   -  #4 P.S. Miss G I | 2nd  -  #5 In Vogue | 3rd   -  #8 Tricks Or Sweets 

COMMENTARY : The #4 P.S. MISS G I looked good at this price last time out and I’ll lean to her in this very competitive dash. The #5 IN VOGUE finished just in behind my top pick last time but considering it was her first start of the year she has a good chance to improve. The #8 TRICKS OR SWEETS is one of many fillies in this one taking a tumble in price and might just need a repeat performance of her last race to get the money in this spot.

Race #5

1st   -  #5 Hunter's Lad | 2nd  -  #8 Acting Kat | 3rd   -  #4 Dancewitharanger 

COMMENTARY : The #5 HUNTER’S LAD seemed to handle this trip quite well last time and should get better today; this is a tougher maiden race but with a race at the distance under him I’ll give him the nod. The #8 ACTING KAT encountered some trouble on the rail in his latest or he would’ve been right there for the win; if he handles the new distance he’ll be very tough. The #4 DANCEWITHARANGER is yet another trying to go long for the first time; she has speed and light weight (105 pounds) so she could lead them for a long way.

Race #6

COMMENTARY :The #5 DANCING ALLSTAR doesn’t really have to give up any weight and with her sprinting again there’s really no reason to go against her. The #1 REMARKABLE MISS is the only one with a remote shot of getting close to the #5 DANCING ALLSTAR but she has to be a lot better today than she has been in the past when running against her. The #3 MY SPECIAL ANGEL has been a private purchase since her last win and should round out the TRIACTOR.

Race #7

1st   -  #10 Go Strider | 2nd  -  #1 Lady Vitesse | 3rd   -  #8 Service Ribbon 

COMMENTARY : The #10 GO STRIDER ran well enough to win in her comeback race but was just nailed nearing the finish; she has a tough post but I think she’ll clear early and get to the rail and she shouldn’t lose from there. The #1 LADY VITESSE also ran too good to lose in her latest and is ‘live’ again in this spot; she has a tricky post assignment as well so it appears that whichever filly gets the better position going into the first turn will win the money. The #8 SERVICE RIBBON had a tough trip last time and will go with blinkers for the first time so we should see some improvement in her today.

Race #8

COMMENTARY : The #7 AGAINST THE SKY is undefeated at this trip and with a solid sprint prep she’s going to be very tough to beat this afternoon. The #8 HOLA MAMACITA finished just in behind my top pick last time out but is another that’ll get better as the distances get farther so she’ll be a major factor in this one. The #2 AFLEET B’S had her six race winning streak snapped in her latest and surprisingly will make her first try at this trip; she’ll make her first start a new barn and will try to start up another win streak today. 

Race #9

COMMENTARY : The #3 KRAZY KOFFEE is the best horse in the race but I’m not too sure if he’ll handle this longer trip; some of his siblings have done alright going long and I’ll gamble that he’ll be another one of them. The #5 TILL THE STORM has run two very good sprints so far this year and strikes me as one that’ll get better at this mile and a sixteenth trip. The #6 SNOW MOON has been keeping company with some good ones (stakes winner Peaceful Turzia and Alberta Derby champ Arkhill) so he deserves respect with these but is another trying a new distance.

Race #10

1st   -  #10 Kickin Back | 2nd  -  #7 Trinidad Bay | 3rd   -  #4 Nor'west Victor 

COMMENTARY : The #10 KICKIN BACK is dropping down the claiming ladder after two runner-up efforts; he should be fast enough to clear and grab the cash against these easier opponents. The #7 TRINIDAD BAY has been in good form this year and if the pace scenario gets hot and contested then he has a good chance of winning the money. The #4 NOR’WEST VICTOR is getting an easier assignment today and has a good shot of improving second time out.
