BC CUP HORSES ON SPECIAL PARADE SUNDAY MORNING

BC Cup 2010Call it a “sneak preview”. Racing fans get a chance Sunday morning (July 25) to watch the workouts of several super star thoroughbreds that will be running on BC Cup Day when eight stakes races are included on the Monday, August 2, holiday 10-race card at Hastings Racecourse.

A BC Cup Preview Breakfast in the grandstand and patio areas will be held at Hastings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Sunday as owners and trainers showcase some of the top BC breds entered in this year’s BC Cup stakes. Open to the public and with no admission charge, the BC Cup Preview Breakfast program includes track announcer Dan Jukich and Daily Racing Form columnist Randy Goulding offering their expert analysis as an anticipated 12 horses will go through their morning exercises prepping for BC Cup Day.

ALL THE STARS WILL BE OUT ON BC CUP DAY

Spaghetti MouseFrom Spaghetti Mouse to Dyna Stroll to Silly Fella and Dearest Princess, past stakes winners will be out in full force during BC Cup Day. The highlight of the card will be the $50,000 Redekop BC Cup Classic for 3-year-olds and up competing over 1 1/18 miles.

Spaghetti Mouse, the all-time leading money winning BC-bred, lifted his earnings to $919,677 when he finished second to Teide in the Lieutenant Governors on July 1. Spaghetti Mouse will be up against Ganbei in the BC Cup Classic. Ganbei won the S.W. Randall Plate last Sunday.

Six other BC Cup Day stakes with $50,000 purses include the Debutante, Stellar’s Jay, Nursery, Dogwood, Sprint and Distaff, as well as the $22,000 BC Cup Endurance over 1 3/8th miles.

Fans at Hastings Racecourse on BC Cup Day will have a chance to win a ‘Best of BC Giveway’ courtesy of Granville Island Brewing that includes two nights at Whistler and four rounds of golf.

PICK 4 CARRYOVER STARTS TONIGHT!

Last weekend’s Wiener Dog races and the upcoming Mascot Derby (August 14) offer limitless fun and excitement for racing fans of all ages. But thrills of another nature now await Hastings Racecourse punters who pride themselves on analyzing – and winning – the Pick 4. Jumping Asian Dude

Beginning with tonight’s card (July 23) Hastings Racecourse will be paying out only on winners of all four legs of the Pick 4 wager. There will no longer be payouts on 3-out-of-4 or 2-out-of-4 wagers. If there aren’t any winners of all four legs, 100 per cent of the pool will be carried over to the following live race day. With potential “jackpot” payouts, it adds another element of intrigue among the wagering public.

Friday Night Live racing goes at 7 o’clock tonight with the regular 1:40 p.m. start times Saturday and Sunday.

Popular Hastings Racecourse jockey Mario Gutierrez rides Shem in the $50,000 Don Fleming Handicap at Northlands Park in a field of eight that goes as the seventh race. Gutierrez also rides Holy Nova on tonight’s card in Edmonton. After returning to ride Sunday at Hastings, Gutierrez heads for Del Mar with trainer Troy Taylor, who’s taking four horses south: Afleet Deal, El Cugat, Motel Stroll and Bred Royal. Mario will be back for BC Cup Day.

Saratoga has the $250,000 American Oaks for 3-year-old fillies going Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Just 20 minutes later the 11th race at Monmouth is the $400,000 Lady’s Secret featuring Rachel Alexandra as the high weight in the field of seven. Del Mar has the $300,000 Eddie Read at 5:30 p.m. with a fieldl of seven going 1 1/8 miles on the turf.

Del Mar is headlining with the San Clemente for 3-year-old fillies going a mile on the turf at 5:30 p.m. The $50,000 Seattle Slew Handicap goes at Emerald Downs at 5:39 p.m.
