Back-to-back stakes victories in the early going of the 2014 Hastings Racecourse season left owner Peter Redekop in a jovial mood Saturday.

“I think I could get quite comfortable here,” Redekop smiled amid the celebration with trainer Anita Bolton following a comfortable victory by Aspen Getaway in the $50,000 Jim Coleman Province. Redekop was also in the winner’s circle on opening day April 27 with Title Contender in the $50,000 George Royal Stakes.

Ridden smartly by veteran jockey Joe Steiner, Aspen Getaway got away from long shot Tempest at the final turn to win by 1 ½ lengths, paying $16.60, $6.80 and $5.30. Final time over the six and one half furlongs for the 3-year-old colts and geldings was 1:17.5. With Tempest at 22-1, the 1-4 exactor paid a handsome $325.40. Favoured Song of Victory finished in a dead-heat with Confisio for fifth place.

In Saturday’s co-feature for 3-year-old fillies, Ole’s Miss nipped favoured Arabella’s Muse at the wire to capture the $50,000 Ross McLeod Stakes for trainer Tracy McCarthy. Owned by Ole Nielsen of Canmor Farms and ridden by Amadeo Perez, Ole’s Miss won by a neck in a final time of 1:17.16, paying $18.90, $6.10 and $3.90.
