Vancouver, B.C. (Sept. 20/15) – The love affair involving an owner, a trainer, a seasoned jockey and spunky two-year-old filly blossomed again at Hastings Racecourse Sunday afternoon.

C U At Eau Claire extended her winning streak in 2015 stakes races to three with a victory by a neck in the 26th running of the Sadie Diamond Futurity.

Stanz in Command tried the same feat in the 85th running of the Jack Diamond Futurity for two-year-old colts and geldings but fell victim to a smashing upset win by Power Corrupt for leading trainer Mike Anderson.

C U At Eau Claire, owned by Don B. Danard, trained by Greg Tracy and ridden by Richard Hamel, won the Sadie Diamond Sunday on the heels of consecutive stakes victories in the BC Cup Debutante and Hard Rock Casino Handicap.

“She’s so very special,” Danard beamed in the winner’s circle.  “Our entire staff loves her.  I’ve won stakes races in the past but this filly can run long, run short … whatever you want her to do.”

Covering the six and one half furlong sprint in a final time of 1:18.30, C U At Eau Claire paid $4.50, $2.80, $2.50 as she held off a surging Snuggles in the final strides.

“This is a nice filly,” Hamel said.  “I didn’t want to be in front but I couldn’t take her back and get stuck behind horses.  She finished well.”  Hamel was also in the irons for her other two stakes wins this year.

A well-timed ride by Jeffery Burningham on Power Corrupt resulted in a $16.50, $5.40, $5.30 payoff over favoured Stanz in Command in the Jack Diamond co-feature. It was Burningham’s third victory on a wet and rainy afternoon, covering the six and one half furlongs in a final time of 1:18.39.  “His best works this year were in the mud,” said assistant trainer Terry Clyde, daughter of owner/breeder Doug Clyde.  “We didn’t expect him to be on the lead early but it all worked out.”

There were no winners Sunday of the Sea to Sky Pick 6 that now has a carryover of $63,241 heading into next Saturday’s card that begins at 1:50 p.m.
