STAR PROSPECTOR & DANCING ALLSTAR PROVE TO BE IDEAL ‘DRAFT PICKS’
Vancouver, B.C. (Sept. 9/07) – The annual CTHS (British Columbia Division) Yearling & Mixed Sale has been likened to amateur and college drafts of young prospects in the NFL, NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball.
It’s the one time each year that horse owners have an opportunity to invest in potential talent with the hopes stardom will one day be the result.
The perfect case in point was on full display this weekend in the CTHS Sales Stakes at Hastings Racecourse with Dancing Allstar and Star Prospector winning in stellar fashion. Only horses who have gone through a CTHS Sale are eligible for the 6 ½-furlong Sales Stakes.
Dancing Allstar, purchased by Bob Cheema for $15,500 at last year’s sale, won Saturday’s $60,000 CTHS Sales Stakes for 2-year-old fillies by a resounding 10 lengths with jockey Mario Gutierrez peeking back at the opposition as she blazed down the home stretch.
For Cheema and trainer Terry Jordan, it was the beginning of an enjoyable and productive weekend. Heavily-favoured Star Prospector scored his third consecutive stakes victory in Sunday’s $60,000 CTHS Sales Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings. Since being claimed by Jordon on behalf of Cheema in July, Star Prospector won the BC Cup Nursery on Aug. 6 and the New Westminster on Aug. 26.
It was a hat-trick of sorts for the Jordan/Cheema team as True Metropolitan won the Speed to Spare Stakes in Edmonton Saturday.
Under a confident ride by veteran jockey Chad Hoverson, Star Prospector won Sunday by assuming command early and leading throughout, drawing clear on the second turn.
The 2007 CTHS British Columbia Division Yearling & Mixed Sale begins at 11 a.m. this coming Tuesday (Sept. 11) at the Thunderbird Show Park on 72nd Avenue in Langley. The Yearling Parade is set for Monday (Sept. 10) at 1 p.m.
