SPAGHETTI MOUSE NOT TO BE DENIED IN REDEKOP BC CUP CLASSIC
Vancouver, B.C. (Aug. 7) – There’s something about traveling 1 1/18 miles at Hastings Racecourse that wets the appetite of Spaghetti Mouse, the talented B.C.-bred four-year-old trained by Gary Demorest.
For a third consecutive time over that distance, Spaghetti Mouse scored an impressive Victory Monday in the $100,000 Redekop BC Cup Classic with his regular jockey Dave Wilson in the irons.
Spaghetti Mouse, winner of the Lt.-Governors Stakes in July and defending 2005 B.C. Derby champion, gained the lead at the quarter pole and drew off driving to finish 4 ¼ lengths ahead of True Metropolitan. Owned by Nick and Pauline Felicella and trained by Gary Demorest, Spaghetti Mouse finished in 1:48.89 and paid $5.20 to win.
Wilson won four races on the $450,000 BC Cup card, finishing the afternoon in the Endurance with a victory on Brass Bard. Wilson also won aboard heavily-favoured Monashee in the Distaff and Sin Toro in the opening race of an afternoon that drew an estimated 10,000 patrons to Hastings Racecourse.
Demorest also enjoyed a big day with three victories. Besides Spaghetti Mouse, he had Chelsey’s Image win the Debutante and He’s Quite a Guy in the Stellar’s Jay.
Tracy McCarthy-trained Notis Otis won the BC Cup Sprint by a neck over Lord Nelson while trainer Ed Thompson was in the winner’s circle with Born to Be Bad in the Nursery.
BC Cup Day is traditionally one of the most active programs of the Hastings Racecourse season. On track wagering Monday topped $726,000 and the live all-sources mutuels went over $1.5 million.
