FIRST STAKES WIN IN CANADA FOR MEXICAN TRAINER JUAN OLMOS

Posted: JULY 13, 2008

Vancouver, B.C. (July 13/08) – Juan Olmos began training horses in 1999 and during his first week in the business he won a stakes race in his native Mexico City.

Now he has his first stakes victory in Canada to his credit following a convincing 5 ¼-length win by his two-year-old colt El Sinaloense in the $50,000 Ladnesian Sunday afternoon at Hastings Racecourse.    Ridden by Pedro Alvarado, El Sinaloense went wire-to-wire in a final time of 1:10.58 over the six furlong trip.

“We played with the field today,” Alvarado said. “My horse had the experience and it showed.”  The field of five included four first-time starters.  For El Sinaloense, it was his second win of the season at Hastings Racecourse.

What R the Odds won Saturday’s $50,000 Timber Music Stakes.  Trained by Mel Snow and ridden by Fernando Perez, What R the Odds broke sharply, gained command from the rail and drew clear on the backstretch in a final time of 1:12.73 over six furlongs.

Racing resumes Friday afternoon at 2:25 at Hastings with the Saturday and Sunday regular starting times of 1:25 p.m.
