SPAGHETTI MOUSE & TRUE METROPOLITAN ON COURSE FOR AN AUGUST SHOWDOWN

Vancouver, B.C. (July 4/07) – Could Spaghetti Mouse and True Metropolitan be headed for another shootout at the OK Corral we know as Hastings Racecourse?

Even though they were 3,000 miles apart last Sunday, both Spaghetti Mouse and True Metropolitan were serving notice that the Redekop B.C. Cup Classic at Hastings Aug. 6 could be the renewal of a rivalry that has treated local thoroughbred fans to some of the greatest moments in modern racing history.

Spaghetti Mouse scored a resounding two-length victory in the $107,850 Lieutenant Governors Handicap at Hastings Sunday for his fifth win in six tries at 1 1/8 miles. Meantime, True Metropolitan was winning the $200,000 Dominion Day Stakes at Woodbine in Toronto with a half-length victory over Mustanfar.

It was the beginning of a memorable weekend at Woodbine for owner Bob Cheema and trainer Terry Jordan. They also won the $125,000 My Dear Stakes with Dancing Allstar on Monday.

There are no guarantees, but Jordan appears to be planning on the return of True Metropolitan to Hastings because, as he says: “It’s not just the money but also because Bob believes in supporting the local industry and he likes to see his horses run at Hastings.”

He’s hardly alone. Another head-to-head battle in the B.C. Cup Classic next month would be, in a word, “classic”.
