IT’S A FOUR-DAY HASTINGS CELEBRATION CAPPED BY LT. GOVERNORS STAKES ON TUESDAY
Vancouver, B.C. (June 26/08) – In the spirit of the Canada Day Long Weekend, Hastings Racecourse is staging four consecutive days of racing, fabulous prize draws and superb entertainment beginning Saturday, June 28 and continuing through Tuesday, July 1.
Live thoroughbred racing begins at 1:25 p.m. daily. This weekend is filled with excitement starting with a draw on Sunday for a $5,000 Home Renovation Certificate for those racing fans who’ve entered at Hastings Gaming Floor or the HPI counter.
Back by popular demand on Monday, June 30 will be the explosive ‘Women of Country’ show featuring B.C.’s finest female country music artists as well as a special guest appearance by the band Appaloosa.
Co-presented by MountainFest and the BC Country Music Association, there will be a draw during Monday afternoon’s ‘Women of Country’ concert for a pair of priceless tickets to this year’s Merritt Mountain Music Festival.
On Tuesday – Canada Day – a lucky Hastings patron in attendance who must be 19 years of age or older - will be crowned ‘Brewmaster of the Day’ courtesy of Granville Island Brewing. The prize package is worth approximately $700.
All of this … and some of the finest thoroughbred racing in North America to enjoy, as well.
“I don’t think people realize how good the horses running at Hastings really are,” trainer Tracy McCarthy told the Daily Racing Form earlier this week.
The first $100,000 stakes race of the season goes on Canada Day with the running of the Lt. Governors Handicap with defending champion Spaghetti Mouse expected to be part of the field. Attorney General Wally Oppal has graciously accepted an invitation to be Guest Decorator on Canada Day.
