Vancouver, B.C. (June 7/08) – Jockey Pedro Alvarado said he was “having fun” during his ride to victory on Spaghetti Mouse in the $50,000 John Longden 6000 Saturday afternoon at Hastings Racecourse.
“I had a hard time holding him back before he relaxed,” Alvardo said after steering Spaghetti Mouse to a 1 1/16 miles to a half-length win over Bank Emblem in a final time of 1:44.62. ‘The Mouse’, as he’s affectionately known to his legion of fans at Hastings, paid $10.90, $4.30 and $2.70. For trainer Terry Dubois it was her maiden stakes victory and for owners Nick and Pauline Felicella it was a return to the winner’s circle after Spaghetti Mouse finished second to True Metropolitan in his 2008 debut in the George Royal Stakes on May 3.
Last year’s 3-year-old champion Sir Gallovic went to the post as the prohibitive favourite and finished third.
Spaghetti Mouse, the BC Derby winner in 2005, rallied from three wide and gained the lead on the final turn.
Racing resumes at Hastings Sunday at 1:25 pm
