Upsets the Order of the Day at Hastings Final Stakes Weekend

Vancouver, B.C. (Oct. 26/08) – Trainer Rob Gilker enjoyed his weekend to the fullest at Hastings Racecourse with upset victories in both the Ascot Graduation Sunday and Saturday’s Fantasy.
Tommy Danzigger rallied from four wide under a perfectly-timed ride by Dave Wilson to win the $100,000 Ascot Graduation for 2-year-old colts and geldings by 1 ¾-lengths in a final time of 1:46.41. Gilker’s training double began with the 2-year-old fillies Saturday when Fashionable Affair gained the lead in the late stretch under Frank Fuentes to win in a final time of 1:48.14.
Danzigger paid $22.10, $9.40 and $5.30. Fashionable Affair paid $23.20, $9.90 and $6.30. Lornamahra, the longest shot on the board Saturday at 30-1, finished second and paid $67.60 to place, combining for a $652.70 exactor. Post time favourite P. S. Good N Ready staged a mild rally in the late going but could only manage a fourth-place finish.
The 2008 Hastings Racecourse season winds down next weekend featuring the fifth and final Pacific Customs Brokers marathon series on Saturday and the Jack Short Adios Amigos Allowance on Sunday. Starting times on both days is 1:25 p.m.
