I began my career with Hastings Racecourse in March of 2009 and I love it just as much today, if not more, than the first day I walked through the door.

When I arrived in Canada from Australia, I had no idea what the future held for me – I was in a foreign country where I knew no one and was unemployed. Fast forward to one year later and I am the happiest I have ever been and have Hastings Racecourse to thank as a major contributor.

I am a firm believer in the notion that the “people make the workplace” and the people I have found at Hastings Racecourse are no exception. From day one, I felt welcomed, accepted and a part of the team. From the General Manager’s open door policy to the smiling faces on the floor, Hastings Racecourse has always provided a welcoming environment.

I was nominated, and received my first GEM Ruby Award in June 2009 and was absolutely thrilled by it. It was incredibly unexpected and very humbling to accept. To then receive the highly commended Honorable Mention GEM award in the annual GEM awards ceremony was one of the best moments in my career. Being rewarded for your extra effort is amazing, but for me, it is the appreciation from your colleagues that gets you there in the first place and is the most rewarding part. Everyone here has always been so helpful to me when I’ve needed it, being able to return the effort and energy generated by this amazing team and to know it is appreciated, is reward enough in itself.

In addition to the great team here, being a team member of Hastings Racecourse also means you are a part of the Great Canadian Team. Through the support of the management team I have been able to build on my prospects and am now beginning an exciting new chapter of my career within the Company as a member of both the Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino and Hastings Racecourse teams.

It’s easy to do great work when you’re surrounded by great people and I definitely found them here - not only are the people here my workmates but also some of my best friends.
